How do you get your kids to try new foods?

How do you get your kids to try new foods? I mean honestly.. HOW?!? My oldest daughter will eat anything... she always has. I mean she went through the nothing but hot dogs phase when she was 2... but besides that, she will try anything at least once.... most of the time liking whatever it is she has just tried.

Now my little two... they don't like ANYTHING! They have been in a chicken nugget and French fries stage for 8 years now! (and they are 8 and 9!) No matter what I make, or how I try and sell it to them, they throw fits, they don't like it, they would rather head for the Golden Arches. Now I am not the best cook in the world... but I'm not that bad either. My husband is an amazing cook and I often joke that I didn't get my girlish figure eating garbage. LOL It is so deflating to both of us. They don't like A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G!

So how do you do it? How do you get your kids to try new things? I feel like they are too old to break of their eating habits, but I also feel like they are too old to still be eating like this! What I thought was a phase has turned into their eating patterns, and I don't see an end in sight. So for the love of chicken nuggets and French fries.... help a momma out! I would love to make things in my crockpot and have everyone eat it, I would love to make pasta with spinach and roma tomatoes and them say "YUM!", I would love to make some fish or homemade soup and them say "WOW MOM!" But their picky little selves won't try a thing!

  1. The time will come when they will eat new things, just keep trying. I've just now (yesterday) had my 11 year old tell me she likes egg noodles and that "they are like regular noodles, just a different shape". I've been saying that for at least the last 10 years!

  2. I always make my kids try everything. I don't believe in making them eat it if they don't like it and I am not a finish everything on your plate kind of mom, but every time we are having something new or that they think they won't like they have to try it. Sometimes things they have been trying for years they think is delicious all of a sudden and sometimes they make peanut butter sandwich for dinner. It's a process!
