Simple Methods of Keeping Your Home Secure

One of the most important aspects of being at home is the feeling that you are safe. Whether you are moving into a new property or you simply think that your home security needs a little bit of improving, here are a few tips on how you can make it harder for any intruders to break in.

Secure the Doors

Rather than using any elaborate methods of breaking in, around a third of burglars enter through the front door. So, it is worth conducting an inspection of all the doors around the home. Some of the things that you are looking out for include keeping the frames strong, hinges protected, and that no one can reach through the letterbox to let themselves in. Two of the features which will help to improve the security of your front door is a peephole and a deadbolt.

Keep the Windows Locked

A lot of the time, latches which are placed on windows are simply not as effective as they could be. It doesn’t have to cost a great deal of cash to install some which are a little higher-quality and offer an increased level of protection. If you want to spend a little more money on improving your home security, you could install some laminated or tempered glass which will offer a stronger hold.

Purchase a Security System

There are all sorts of security systems which can help to bolster the defenses of your home. It could be a basic DIY installation or a smart system with total monitoring. You could install a hidden security camera which allows you to keep an eye on what is going on around the various area of your house. Or perhaps you would prefer an alarm and motion sensors. Ultimately, whatever system you choose, it needs to be one that you feel comfortable having in your home.

Meet the Neighbours

So you can install all the fancy home security systems which you like, but sometimes, security solutions are more straightforward than that. Simply getting to know your neighbours better can help you to have the peace of mind that your home is being watched by someone who has your best interests at heart. And the more neighbors you get to know, the better protected your home will be.

Light Up Your Outdoors

Even though a big proportion of burglaries occur during the day, this doesn’t mean that you can’t protect yourself at night with some security lights. If you choose the models which come along with motion sensors, you can be comfortable that you have an added layer of protection. Potential intruders are likely to be put off simply by the fact that you are shining a light on their activities.

Home security is something which you can improve little by little over time, and these are just a few of the steps which are worth taking to protect your house that little bit better.

  1. Great tips! You can also sign up for an app from Ring, without needing the doorbell. I think it's called Ring Neighborhood.
