Shark Week is just about here & now that my family is home from our beach vacation, I can calmly think about them again. It was about nine years ago when my dad and I went for a swim while vacationing on the NC coast, and we had a very close and scary encounter with three nurse sharks in pretty shallow water. I've been afraid to venture into the ocean ever since and hold my breath when my kids enter those same waters with their dad. Talk about anxiety!

Shark Week is a big deal, though, and just about everyone I know looks forward to it. We've never done a whole lot with it, but my son, who is seven years old, is quite fascinated by sharks.
