Baby Sleep Tips that will Stop those Red-Eyed Mornings

If you want some awesome newborn baby sleeping tips then you have certainly come to the right place. Here you can find out everything you need to know about putting your newborn baby to sleep while also finding out how easy it is for you to get them into a good routine.

Swaddling

You may be wondering- why do babies fight sleep? And this is completely normal. Every baby seems to do it, and this is because, from birth, babies have a startle reflex. They feel as if they are falling and this causes them to jerk or have some very strange movements. This will wake them up constantly and if you swaddle your baby then this can help them to stop waking themselves up all the time. This will help them to stay asleep longer and it will also give you a much better night’s sleep as well. Make sure to clean their mattress properly. The main problem that people have is that they have no idea when they should stop swaddling, and a good rule of thumb is to do it when your child can get their arms out and roll themselves over. This is a great indicator that they are done with the whole swaddle thing, and it can really put your mind at ease as well because you know that they are ready to move on.

Dream Feeding

If you feed your baby right before you go to bed then this can help to stop them from waking up. The best thing about this is that you can have your baby sleep when you do and you would be surprised at how easy this is to do. It only takes a couple of minutes out of your day but it could buy you hours of sleep so it is well worth doing. If you can get them into a routine by doing this then this is a great way for you to really try and settle them down.

Limit Naps

It can be super hard for you to wake up a sleeping baby, but if you sleep too long then this can really rob you of the sleep you have at night. If the baby starts to sleep past the two-hour mark then it may be a good idea for you to wake them up and give them a feed. You can then lay them down for another nap again. If you feel as though your baby needs more sleep than this then you should let them, but breaking up the day is one of the best ways for you to get your baby to sleep way better at night. Of course, there will be times when you need sleep yourself and there will be times when nothing sounds better than a recovery nap. This is okay to do now and again, but it could mean that your baby will wake you up in the middle of the night as usual
so do keep that in mind.

White Noise

Nobody likes to miss a good old party, so if you have a baby and there are things going on then there is a high chance that it will be hard for them to go to sleep and then stay asleep. If you want to avoid all of this from happening without limiting yourself to creeping around the house then one thing that you can do is put a fan on in the baby’s room. You won’t want this next to the baby because they do have very sensitive ears, but you can easily use it to create some ambient noise if you want. This will really help you to avoid waking them up when the doorbell goes and it will also help you to try and keep them asleep at night as well.

Eat, Wake Up, Sleep

If you want to get your baby into a good routine then feed them when they wake up. This means that they are awake enough to play. You can then tire them out, put them back to sleep and then carry on with this routine. This cycle serves a lot of purposes and it really does encourage full feedings as well. The baby will have a lot of energy at this time and it will also make them much more inclined to take longer naps. It will also help them to go longer between feedings as well. If you feed the baby like this then this stops them from associating food with sleep. Newborn babies really do require more feedings if you want them to have a healthy growth rate and development, and it’s also important that you feed them often so that they can go on to have a
healthy weight gain as well.

Pre-Nap and Bedtime Routines

It is a known fact that babies really do thrive on routine and they also thrive on structure as well. If you want to have a constant routine or if you want to have a good structure for them then one way for you to do this would be for you to create a pre-nap routine. Try and take the baby into their room, close all of the blinds and then place the baby in a blanket. When you have done this, turn on the white noise and sing to them a little bit. Give them a cuddle, say some kind words to them and then put them down. It’s super important that you do the same routine every single night because this can really help you to keep them asleep and it can also help them to recognize when it is time to go to sleep as well so do keep that in mind.

So there are plenty of ways for you to try and put your baby to bed at night, and you’d be surprised at how easy it is for you to really settle them down. When you are able to do this, you’ll find that you can get way more sleep at night and you can also feel more confident in your own ability to be a good parent. After all, you got this!
