Smart Mom's Guide to Essential Oils Book #Review + #Giveaway

Thank you to Ulysses Press for providing me with a sample copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

Last summer, one of my best gal pals moved away. I have really been missing her- the great conversations we had, and how she shared her love of essential oils with my family. She had a huge book of uses for oils, and more essential oils than I even knew existed. She really opened my eyes to the benefits of using essential oils. After she moved, my go-to guru wasn't right around the corner anymore, and I felt sort of lost as to how to go about using the oils that I had (which weren't many).

I was pretty excited to receive a copy of Smart Mom's Guide to Essential Oils by Dr. Mariza Snyder. This book is such a gem, and worth having at home! It's a true guide for anyone who is interested in learning about essential oils and how to use them. The introduction of this book goes through the history of essential oils- how they're made, where they come from, and what they can be used for.

I found it very interesting to read about the Potency of Essential Oils. For instance, did you know that it takes 50 lemons to make a 15-milliliter bottle of lemon essential oil!? One drop of lemon essential oil would cost about $0.05. This sort of helps me to understand why essential oils can be so expensive. Not all essential oils are created equal, and I learned that there is a big difference between perfume grade essential oils, and food grade essential oils. There's a provided checklist that you can follow when you're shopping for your oils. There's also great information on how to store your oils. You'll definitely want to keep them our of your children's reach. I keep mine in a kitchen cabinet with spices and food coloring on one side, and over the counter medicines on the other... way out of reach of my kiddos.

I was excited to see the many uses of Lavender Essential Oil, especially since lavender is used in so many products to calm and soothe babies, or de-stress adults.

I only have a few essential oils- peppermint, lavender, and lemon. The Smart Mom's Guide to Essential Oils has information and recipes for each of these oils. There's an entire section on Baby Support, and there are recipes for teething, peaceful sleep, digestive health, and more!

Want to clean with essential oils rather than harsh chemicals? There's a section of the book devoted to green recipes for the home, including DIY hand soap, cleaners, stain removers, and more! There are even tons of beauty tips and recipes to go along with them. I can't wait to make my own shower soothers with these recipes. They're perfect for this time of the year when everyone is fighting the cold/flu viruses and dealing with springtime allergies. Think of all of the homemade gifts you could make with recipes from this awesome book!
