LDS Temple DC Festival of Lights

Every year the LDS Temple of Washington, DC hosts a very special holiday celebration, The Festival of Lights. This year was the 39th year of the festival but the first time we got to go as a family. We are not part of the LDS religion but they are welcoming to everyone and genuinely excited to have people visit. While there, we learned that setting up for the festival takes many months; They start decorating in July and it usually takes them until April to take the everything down.

Temple grounds glow with over 650,000 lights:

Christmas trees decorated in international themes:

Life-sized outdoor nativity:

Nightly performances in their beautiful theater:

And, my favorite part, exhibit of crèches from around the world:

We had an amazing time visiting the temple for the Festival of Lights! If you live near DC or plan to see family in that area in December, it's an excellent activity for people of all ages. The Festival is open every year December 1st- January 1st daily from 10 am to 10 pm. We are going to make it a new family tradition!
