Get the Care You Need without Leaving Home with Amwell

This is a sponsored conversation from Mums the Word Network and Amwell. All opinions are my own.

I never really understood the phrase, 'I don't have time to get sick' until I became a parent. You would think that a WAHM might have all the time in the world to go to a traditional doctor's office when she has a cold, but I'm here to tell you that more often than not, she doesn't. I am one of those moms. I have two kids, one in school and one (an infant) at home with me during the day. My husband is self-employed, and he's a freelance musician in addition to his day job, so he's always very busy.

I hate getting sick, and I usually skip going to the doctor, even when I know I probably need to. Going to the doctor usually means hauling one or both of the kids with me, or having to hire a sitter, since all of their grandparents work during the week. It seems like too much trouble to me, so I have been known to suffer through my ailments until symptoms subside.

Lucky for me, and parents everywhere, there's Amwell! American Well is the nation’s largest telehealth company, connecting users with board-certified, licensed doctors, dieticians and psychologists for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop. Some general conditions our doctors encounter on our telehealth platform include: minor illnesses and injuries, general health and wellness concerns, prescription refills, and chronic condition management. We employ primary care, specialist physicians, licensed behavioral therapists and registered dietitians to meet our patients’ health and wellness needs.

Using Amwell recently saved me time. It's so convenient to meet with a doctor on your own schedule, without having to leave the house. I recently had a lot of tension in my neck, back and shoulder. It was so bad one morning when I woke up, that I could barely turn my head to one side, and I was in a lot of pain. I had a suspicion that the pain was caused from constant leaning over when nursing Baby S, but I needed to know safe remedies, since there are a lot of medicines you can't take when breastfeeding.

I hopped on my laptop and connected with a doctor through Amwell. It was so easy to set up an account. I simply entered my information, and answered a few questions about my medical history and pharmacy preference. Once that was all set, I entered payment info and was connected with a local provider. Within just minutes, I was chatting privately with a lisenced doctor about my sore neck and shoulder. The visit was very pleasant, and I felt super at ease, since I was in the comfort of my own home. The doctor's office sometimes makes me nervous.

My doctor's visit was thorough, yet fast. I was given the advice to alternate heat and cold packs on the sore areas, and to take Ibuprophen as needed. I was even given the option to have a prescription called in, but opted not to, since I had prescription Tylenol leftover from my recent surgery. With the medicine and the hot/cold treatment, the pain subsided within a few days and I have been back to normal ever since.
