Our search is over!
Thank you to ECOlunchbox for providing me with product, free of charge, in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.
Since our family is out of the house a lot, it's important to find ways to eat that don't break the bank. We are guilty of stopping at our favorite restaurants, but when we pack snacks and leftovers from home, that temptation is usually trumped by our frugal nature. There is one problem with traveling with food- storage. Ray and I have been on the hunt for the perfect food storage containers for years, but I believe our search is now over!
ECOlunchbox is a company that focuses on plastic-free lunchware. It was started by a mom, Sandra Ann Harris, who lives in California. Sandra's mission is to help families reduce their dependence on plastic. Since plastic is a petroleum-based material with additives, it is believed that it leaches chemicals in our food, our bodies and the environment. The company uses petroleum alternatives such as stainless steel, silicone, cotton, and bamboo.
A was able to open the containers.
After opening my package from ECOlunchbox, I was impressed by the sleek stainless steel of the Splash Box. Then, to my surprise there were two Splash Pods nesting inside- SCORE! The three containers are part of Blue Water Bento collection and feature high quality, food safe, corrosion resistant stainless steel bottoms and leak-proof silicone lids. Seeing the set immediately gave me some ideas for taking snacks and meals on the road.
Nesting bentos, how fun!
I was skeptical when I read the containers are water-tight, the lids were so flexible and easy to use--impossible! So, my first test was filling them with water and shaking them while upside down. Boy was I wrong to doubt the ECOlunchbox: not a drop of water came out! I felt confident that I could package some stew without spillage or leaks.
I was able to heat this in the oven.
Since Ray has work and school five days a week, the Blue Water Bentos were really convenient. Before we had them, there were days he wouldn't take food because it was a hassle. He wouldn't eat until dinner! Now it's easy to grab and go in the morning. I actually have fun packing them...
Ray says this is the perfect amount of oatmeal for a filling, quick breakfast.
I was able to pack a light snack for the girls before heading to the park, and not worry about food spilling or weighing down my bag.
A couldn't wait to try her snack!
As I said before, Ray and I had been searching for the perfect lunch box. Since Ray uses public transportation most days, he wanted something rugged but easy to carry. I HATE washing plastic and how easily it stains, so our ideal containers would be constructed of anything but. The Blue Water Bento Splash Box and Splash Pods are a home-run! They are super lightweight, durable, and clean up effortlessly with a little soap and water. Ray likes the form factor, as he can quickly stash the containers away when he's done with lunch. The health and environmental benefits are just icing on the cake. We love them! I know these boxes will continue to get daily use for many years to come.
