buddingSTEM was created when two Seattle moms couldn’t find the things their girls loved on clothes made for girls. When Jennifer’s daughter was 4, she wanted to be an astronaut for Halloween -- until a catalogue of kids’ costumes came in the mail. She took one look and said, “I can’t be an astronaut. That costume is for boys.” A couple months later, Malorie’s 2-year-old daughter wanted train underpants -- but those were only found in the boys section. It made us think:

We tell our girls they can do anything. Be anything. So, why is it so hard to find clothes for young girls who aspire to explore the universe or dig for dinosaurs? Or for girls who just like trains?

buddingSTEM launched in March 2015 with a Kickstarter Campaign - surpassing its $45,000 goal and raising $70,000. buddingSTEM co-founders Jennifer Muhm and Malorie Catchpole were awarded GeekWire's 2015 Geek of the Year award for their work on buddingSTEM (beating out Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen!).

The Apatosaurus Collection was our first design, created to encourage girls to hold on to their love of dinosaurs. Why? Because just over 20% of members in the international Paleontological Society are women. And, even if she doesn’t grow up to dig for dinosaurs, we believe it’s time girls saw *all* the things they love on clothes made for them!!

Our Apatosaurus Dress is cute and comfy - and it can be dressed up with tights and a cardigan or worn over leggings on the playground.

It is made of a super soft material and is SO cute! It has been washed and dried, and it held up very nice in the wash. No shrinkage and no fading. MK LOVES it!!! She has worn it a few times already. It is definitely a new favorite!!
