Shout! Factory has been around for 12 years. 12 years! That’s quite an achievement and one we’re very proud to celebrate.

When we first founded Shout!, we were fairly fresh off our Rhino days, a company my brother Richard founded in the 1970s. We had an amazing run at Rhino: 25 years for Richard, 15 years for me and about the same for our partner, Bob Emmer.

In 2003, Richard decided to put together a new label. He got Bob involved, and then brought me in. The optimist that he is, he thought it was a great time to launch a new entrepreneurial, independent audio and video company. It turned out that our timing wasn't so good in the music business, but the DVD business was on the rise. We jumped on the opportunity, while also keeping one hand in the music biz.

We were fortunate to maintain many great relationships from our Rhino days, which lead to a number of successful music-oriented audio and video releases. But then 2004 came, and with it, our initial foray into the genre that paved our way: TV on DVD.

We released the amazing TV show, Freaks And Geeks, packed with an absurd amount of bonus content and commentaries. We did the same with the infamous Canadian sketch comedy show, SCTV. Both of these legendary shows had not made it to video or DVD because of complex music rights issues through which we were able to navigate, thanks to our music business background.

Through the years, we’ve been able to add such extraordinary complete series sets to our catalog like All In The Family; Barney Miller; Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman; The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis and Route 66 (which we own outright). We’ve also served the hardcore fans of shows like the original Transformers, G.I. Joe and Power Rangers with limited-edition, specialty packaging, complete-series sets. Releases like these are why we’re in this business. These are sets we want to own ourselves!

On the music side, we were fortunate that Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss trusted us to reissue the Tijuana Brass catalog. We began with an album of previously unreleased tracks from the classic TJB period - Lost Treasures - and then released deluxe versions of each of the classic albums. We produced several new records with the late, great Solomon Burke, a trilogy of cover albums by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs, and launched indie bands like The Airborne Toxic Event.

As our reputation for carefully curated releases grew, so did our opportunities. In the past several years, we’ve nurtured successful partnerships with such amazing companies as Hasbro Studios (My Little Pony, Transformers), Marvel Animation (Marvel Knights), Saban (Power Rangers), plus launched a line of horror films under the sub-label, Scream Factory (The Fog, They Live, The Vincent Price Collection).

Basically, we’re living up to our own motto of staying dedicated to what we grew up on, but never outgrew. Please let us know what you think. We want to keep doing this for as long as possible. Your feedback helps us know more about what’s working and what’s not.

There are SO many amazing features on Shout! Factory, I was like a kid in a candy store looking at the different titles! So many things from my childhood that I would absolutely love to share with my kiddos!!! Number 1 on my list.... JEM!

Canterlot High is hosting a musical showcase and Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy are going to be performing with their new band, The Rainbooms. A new girl group, The Dazzlings, arrive at CHS and convince everyone to turn the friendly showcase into a Battle of the Bands. Tensions mount and a reformed Sunset Shimmer realizes that the Dazzlings may not be ordinary girls and are after something far more sinister. The Rainbooms call on Princess Twilight to return to their world to help them perform a musical counter-spell so that they can win a battle that now determines the fate of the entire school.
