I have been a huge fan of Hillsong Church and Hillsong Worship for the past fifteen years or so. I began listening to and singing some of their worship music in church, when I was just 15-16 years old. After my dad attended the Hillsong Conference in Sydney almost ten years ago, he brought back a myriad of books and CD's of their latest music, which happened the be their Savior King album. Our lives were transformed by their music. Our approach to contemporary worship changed, and we began to look to Hillsong for their music, their worship style, and leadership in the church worldwide.
All of these years later, Hillsong Church has gone through some changes, but their mission remains the same. Hillsong music has exploded in the US, with thanks to Hillsong United- their 20-30 something worship band (lead by Joel Houston), which has been drawing mainstream attention across radio and television.
Hillsong Worship Team
Hillsong just released their 2015 worship album, Open Heaven/River Wild. I have been collecting Hillsong's worship albums for many years, and love to just listen to their music, and worship on my own. I love their worship leaders, and their songs, which are so glorifying to God, and inspiring. Open Heaven/River Wild offers the idea that God cannot be tamed. His love is wild- it reaches everyone who is willing to accept it.
This album gives the church a brand new batch of worship songs to sing from their hearts. The album was recorded live at Hillsong Conference in Sydney- a full on worship experience of the church. Open Heaven/River Wild features songs which are gaining vast popularity among worshippers, and are sung by familiar worship leaders, such as Jad Giles, Marty Sampson, Ben Fiedling, Taya Smith, Joel Houston, among others. I was especially glad to see Brooke (Fraser) Ligertwood's name on this album, as she's been a favorite worship leader of mine for a long time.
'One Thing,' is the only single that has been released from this album thus far, and it's beautiful. 'Trasfiguration,' lead by Taya Smith is another favorite. I first heard 'O Praise the Name' last year around Easter time (when it was pre-released for choral use), and thought it was absolutely beautiful.
