NEW YORK, NY and CHARLOTTE, NC – April 13, 2015 – SheKnows Media, the number-one women’s lifestyle digital media company1 with 81.5 million unique visitors per month2 and 162 million social media fans and followers, today announced that it will facilitate a special Town Hall meeting with President Barack Obama in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tax Day, April 15, to discuss the earning and economic prospects of American women in the workforce – and by extension, their families.

Lisa Stone, SheKnows Media’s Chief Community Officer and Co-Founder of BlogHer, will moderate the live conversation between the community and President Obama regarding his proposal to help working parents make ends meet by increasing the federal Child Tax Credit and expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit. As a nod to Equal Pay Day on April 14, President Obama will also address questions from Town Hall attendees about the wage gap and his efforts to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would make it illegal for employers to pay unequal wages to women and men who perform similar work, and The Fair Pay Act, which would prohibit wage discrimination based on sex, race and national origin.
“The wage gap is a pervasive, deep-rooted problem that has become a painful thorn in the side of American families as more and more women – including mothers – not only provide income support but assume primary breadwinner roles,” Stone said. “Currently, women earn an average 78 cents to every dollar men make for equal work – and that disparity significantly increases for women of color.3 It is imperative that equal pay for equal work becomes a top legislative priority.”
Stone continued, “I am deeply honored to help families across the United States join our community of 81.5 million monthly visitors and 20,000-plus content creators raise their voices and be heard by President Obama and the White House administration in a discussion about this important issue that impacts women and men alike.”

In addition to moderating the Town Hall meeting, which will take place at the ImaginOn children’s theater and library, SheKnows Media will livestream the discussion on SheKnows.com, BlogHer.com and will share highlights from the meeting online and across its social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The meeting will also be livestreamed on WhiteHouse.gov.

You can join the conversation and ask questions on social media before, during and after the meeting, using the hashtag #ObamaTownHall. SheKnows Media also will use the hashtag #womenslives to engage the community in the discussion as part of its joint initiative with Public Radio International-PRI (www.pri.org) to ensure that important, in-depth coverage about women – from education to health to economic development – is seen and heard.
