There's plenty to love about this time of year- the cool, crisp air, winter fashion, and comfort food, but there's nothing to love about chapped lips. I used to have a major lip balm addiction, but only stuck to one or two brands that I really felt worked the best. Unfortunately, I found that the brands I was (over)using were actually drying my lips out, which left me in a worse place than I was before I started using them. Lip balm has really come a long way in the past ten or so years. I love lip gloss for the shine, but my hubby and son really dislike the icky, sticky mess that comes along with it. So, I set out to find a new lip balm that would protect my skin, keep my lips from drying out during the harsh winters, and would give me high shine I love being able to get from a lip gloss.

Since 1937, Carmex has been bringing their wonderful skincare products to the consumer. Invented by Alfred Woelbing, literally on the family stovetop, for 20 years, Alfred and his wife made Carmex by hand and poured it into the familiar yellow-capped jars.

Eventually production moved out of the Woelbing home and into a rented facility in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, where it remained until the move in 1975 to its current site in Franklin, Wisconsin.

Carma Labs employs about 100 people and is still owned and operated by the family: Alfred's grandsons Eric and Paul Woelbing.
