Disney on Ice: Princesses & Heroes at Time Warner Cable Arena #Recap

I fondly remember the days when my sister and I longed to be Disney princesses. This was back in the day, when Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid hit the big screen for the very first time. Ariel and Belle have always been my favorite princesses. Hubby and I are big Disney fans, and we're not surprised that our son loves the magical world of Disney, too. He's definitely more into the action and heroes, but what boy isn't?

We had the opportunity to see Disney on Ice: Princesses and Heroes last night at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC. We have been to the arena many times, for all types of different events, and it was so cool to see the floor iced over, and turned into a skating rink! We couldn't wait to see our favorite princesses and heroes dancing across the ice.

Now, I have to tell you- my photos aren't stellar. There was so much quick movement on the ice, that my camera phone had a hard time focusing and capturing images. The show began with our pals- Tinker Bell, and of course Mickey and Minnie, welcoming everyone to the show!

The first story that we watched unfold across the ice, was the story of Aladdin. This is one of my hubby's favorite Disney movies, and we was excited to see the characters- even Abu! We watched as the palace guards chased Aladdin and Princess Jasmine across the ice, and then as Aladdin met Genie! The voice over for Genie was none other than the late Robin Williams, which made it all the more special for us.

The scenes from Aladdin were so much fun to watch and sing along with! Next, we were surprised by a familiar princess, Belle, who skated out with a red rose, and was soon joined by Lumière, and the dishes of the castle! They sang and skated to 'Be Our Guest,' another favorite Disney song!

The last act before the intermission was of course, my favorite part of the entire show- The Little Mermaid. B really enjoyed this act, because it started off with Prince Eric's ship and crew swabbing the deck, and doing all sorts of acrobatic stunts on the ice- it was pretty impressive!

Soon after, we met our favorite old crab, Sebastian, who led the audience in singing and dancing, including our favorite 'Under the Sea!' All of Ariel's sisters came skating out, followed by lots of sea creatures, dressed in beautiful, glittering costumes. They skated so beautifully!

The whole story of The Little Mermaid did unfold- it was the premier act of the entire show. We did see Ursula, who captured Ariel's voice, but love conquered all, as Prince Eric rescued Ariel with a kiss before the sun set, and she regained her voice, and they lived happily ever after.

During the second half of the program, we saw acts from Sleeping Beauty. This was hubby's favorite part of the show, as Prince Phillip is the only true Disney hero in his book. We watched the three fairies skate across the ice, giving Prince Phillip his sword and shield to fight Maleficent, who turned into a fearsome, fire-breathing dragon (this was a cool part of the show, too!).

We also saw scenes from Snow White, The Princess and the Frog, Rapunzel, and Cinderella! We're less familiar with The Princess and the Frog, and Rapunzel, but the skating in both scenes was fantastic, and the costumes were quite dazzling! I was excited to see Cinderella, she's a classic princess, and I will always love her story.

We were sad for the show to end, but we were excited to see all of our favorite Disney princesses and heroes come out onto the ice to skate around for the finale! All of the princesses and and princes were dressed in their finest, and skated so beautifully!

In short, Disney on Ice was a magical experience for us. It was our first time seeing ice skating of this nature up close, and we had terrific seats! The skating was fantastic, the costumes were elegant and ornate, and the show moved seamlessly from one act to the next, which meant that no one got bored!

We had a wonderful evening together, just the three of us, enjoying the magical world of Disney on Ice. The only disappointment to us (and those around us), was that we noticed a huge snowflake from 'FROZEN' up on the lighting/effects rafters. We kept waiting for it to come down, and for Elsa to come skating out for a 'Let It Go' number. We were so disappointed that this show did not incorporate FROZEN... and there were lots of little Elsa's and Anna's in the audience who did look very sad at the end of the show. We're hoping that the next Disney on Ice show will have a lot of FROZEN in it!

All in all, we had a wonderful time. We can't wait for our next adventure at Time Warner Cable Arena. We love the venue in uptown Charlotte! The staff is so friendly and helpful, plus, the venue is always very clean and secure, so we feel good about taking our son there.
