The Importance of Dating Your Spouse + First Things First/Moon Pie Prize Pack #Giveaway

Have you ever heard the phrase 'date your spouse?' I think that a lot of married couples sort of get into a very comfortable and familiar rhythm after a while, and forget the importance of dating. When my husband and I were dating, we used to do all sorts of fun, romantic things. One of my favorite dates, which we tried to go on every year, was to take a picnic lunch up to the Blue Ridge Parkway in the NC mountains, and just drive along, stop at the overlooks, enjoy a picnic, take goofy photos, and then drive along the parkway until we hit Asheville, and then we would explore the city, and enjoy a nice dinner out somewhere. On the way home, later in the evening, we'd open up the sunroof on the car, and just sit and look at the stars.

A rare hubby/wife date at the Charlotte, NC MUSE concert, Sept. 2013

Today, hubby and I have been married going on seven years, and we're proud parents of a soon-to-be four-year-old boy. B is the joy of our lives, but since he came into the world, I have definitely noticed how hard it has become for my husband and I to keep the romance alive. We're busy- we work, we volunteer (a lot of our time) at our church, and when we do things together, I feel guilty if our son isn't with us.

Every now and again, we try to schedule date nights... even if we just go out to dinner, and then come back home to watch a movie. We kow that we don't have to do anything major- the point is that the two of us spend time together, and that we communicate with one another.

Take a look at this cute video on Dating Your Spouse, which has some neat ideas as to how couples can keep the spark going in their married life...

I love some of the ideas shown  in the video- taking a nature walk together, enjoying an office picnic, exploring the aqarium, etc. Taking some time to show your spouse how much you love and appreciate them is so important. I am making an attempt to do more little things for my hubby- like leave a love note in his sock drawer when I put his laundry away.

Did you know:

Only 30% of divorces are due to infidelity, addiction or abuse, 70% of divorces are due to couples feeling disconnected.

Couples who manage to devote time specifically to one another at least once a week are markedly more likely to enjoy high-quality relationships and lower divorce rates, compared to couples who do not devote as much couple time to one another.

  1. I think the video is great. Dating your spouse is important. My husband and I get a babysitter once a month to have time to ourselves. It helps relief the stress and refocus.

  6. Since having our 1st kid - the most memorable date was when we were in Germany and I was pregnant and venturing out to a castle and got into a white out snow storm at the top! Funny enough it was enjoyable experience we shared!

  7. My spouse and I went to a historical town in our state and walked around the fort and the historical downtown area. We went to the lighthouse and went to a nice restaurant for dinner. We ended the evening with a ghost tour and then went for ice cream while we walked around a little more before heading home. It was really nice to just relax and take in the sights.
