MBP's special review & giveaway for the Valentine's Heart Hop continues below...
I have been a pearl girl through and through for as long as I can remember. I love jewelry of all mediums, but to me, there's nothing more beautiful or as classic as pearls. My parents presented me with my first set of real pearls many years ago, and it included a flawless strand of freshwater pearls, a bracelet, studs and even a beautiful ring with a trio of pearls, set in gold. Those pearls are so very special to me. I wore them on my wedding day, almost every day of my pregnancy, they were the first earrings I wore after the birth of my son, and they are my go-to jewelry for special occasions and everyday wear. Over the years, I have seen additions to my first set of pearls... such as beautiful freshwater pearls mixed with leather, a gorgeous pearl pendant and a lovely chocolate brown pearl necklace that my sister and brother-in-law gifted to me on my 30th birthday.
I feel that I have a fairly wide variety of pearl jewelry, but one thing that has been at the very tip-top of my wish list since my husband and I got married, is a set of black Tahitian pearls. Imagine my delight when I received an invitation from PearlParadise.com, to receive and review a pair of Tahitian pearl earrings! I saw a sneak peek of the pearls online, but I knew that no picture really does jewelry justice, and that they were going to look so exquisite in person.
Pearl Paradise is the world's largest online pearl company, specializing in providing affordable, high quality, classic, elegant pearl jewelry up to 80 percent below retail prices. Of course, this is music to this pearl fanatic's ears! Every associate that works with PearlParadise.com, is a trained, world-class pearl expert. With over 100,000 satisfied customers to date, PearlParadise.com is the premier pearl destination!
My package from PearlParadise.com arrived in a shipping box, and wrapped in fine tissue paper.
As I unpacked the contents of the package, I was impressed by all that was included with my 'purchase.'
My package included a lovely box (which housed the jewelry), and official appraisal certificate, Tahitian pearl education, care information, and cleansing products. Just by looking at what came packaged with my pearls, I knew that folks at PearlParadise.com knew their pearls, and cared very much about educating their customers on where the pearls came from, their value, and how to properly care for them.
My appraisal certificate was tucked neatly inside of this folder.
My official appraisal certificate of my new pearl earrings.
I was so happy to have the appraisal certificate for a couple of reasons. First off, it certified that the pearls were indeed real, certified cultured pearls. Secondly, it told me the appraisal value. This pair of earrings in particular, is sold by PearlParadise.com for $200.00. The appraisal value, however, is $1,000.00. It's good to know how much your 'valuables' are really worth. This also tells me that I need to treat these earrings a bit differently, and store them in a safe place. The certificate is signed, and bears a special seal. It also has an area for me to sign, signifying that I am the owner of these beautiful pearls.
Onto the actual jewelry... I chose to review the Venus Collection Tahitian Baroque Pearl Dangle Earrings. As I mentioned earlier, I have been after Tahitian pearls for quite a while, and from the looks of the photo, these were going to be absolutely beautiful!
My pearls arrived in a beautiful gift box, inside of a standard white jewelry box.
The inside of the jewelry box was cushioned, just as I expected it to be. The earrings were also carefully placed into thin bubble wrap, to give them extra protection during shipping.
And here are the earrings- beautiful Tahitian Baroque Pearls, dangling from sterling silver hooks.
A closer look at the pearls...
These beautiful Tahitian pearls came from French Polynesia, specifically found in the black-lip oyster. Tahitian pearls are very rare, and vary in size. Their coloring ranges from black to green and silver. Their shape is usually round or baroque. This particular set of earrings, is a baroque pearl shape, which is more teardrop than perfectly round. They have a high luster (or shine) to them, and have light to little blemishing. They are dark in color, looking silver, but also highlighting green tones. They are a AAA pearl quality, and are 10.0-11.0 mm in size. The peals delicately dangle from a sterling silver hook.
To give you a better idea of the true size of the Tahitian pearl, here is one of the earrings in my hand.
I was so excited to see these pearls. They are even more beautiful than I imagined they would be. I couldn't wait to wear them, but didn't know when my next 'special occasion' would be. I decided that it didn't really matter, and I was going to rock these gorgeous pearls with an everyday outfit.
Here's a great close-up look at the pearls dangling from my ears. Aren't they beautiful?
This is the size of the pearl in between my fingers. Take a look at their size compared to my fingernail.
The Venus Collection Tahitian Baroque Pearl Dangle Earrings hit just below my jaw line.
Beautiful, timeless earrings, perfect for everyday wear and special occasions.
What I love most about these gorgeous Tahitian pearl earrings, is that they are incredibly unique. I love the baroque shape of the pearl. Almost like little chameleons, the pearls pick up the colors I am wearing. I have only had these earrings for just under one week, and have worn them with black, and grey. With these colors, they appear dark and silver-like. I can't wait to wear one of my favorite olive green t-shirts, to see what the coloring of the pearls look like against the color of my shirt.
The sterling silver dangle hooks are a unique compliment to the pearls. These are probably the longest dangling earrings I now own, and though I was worried that their length might be too long for my liking, I had no need to worry. They look lovely, and are virtually weightless. I hardly even notice they're hanging from my ears until I feel them swish and sway as I turn my head.
My pearls included a Pearl Care Kit (all purchases from PearlParadise.com do).
The Pearl Care Kit includes pearl tissues...
...as well as a cleansing/polishing cloth.
Pearl Care is very important. Keeping the pearls away from any type of product that could cause residue and build up on the jewelry, such as sunblock, hair product, makeup, etc, is key. Swimming, showering and/or sleeping in your pearls is a no-no. They should be removed from wearing and wiped with a soft, damp cloth to preserve their beautiful appearance and luster. To avoid scratching, pearls should be stored away from hard jewelry, such as rings and bracelets. Pearls should also be safely stored in a cloth bag or in a lined jewelry box. This keeps your pearls in beautiful condition for generations to come.
I enjoyed the educational materials included with my pearls.
Since Tahitian pearls are so rare and precious, I was glad to know more about where they came from. I also found it extremely interesting to read about how strands of Tahitian pearls are made. The process of how the pearls are sorted, graded, sorted again by color (shade) and shape for pearl strands, earrings, rings, etc., is fascinating! There's so much work involved behind the scenes, and it truly makes me appreciate these Tahitian pearl earrings all the more!
I have been enjoying looking around the PearlParadise.com online store, just browsing the variety of pearls they offer. I amazed by the color choices, the variety of sizes, and of course, how the pearls are presented through different styles of jewelry.
Take a look at some of these gorgeous Tahitian Pearl pieces...
