Among Friends Baking Mixes- We Love Baking Yes We Do! #Review and #Giveaway

I have loved cooking and baking for as long as I can remember. My Gram passed the cooking/baking “bug” to my Mom, my Mom passed it to me, and I am passing it to my girls! I talk to my Gram and my Mom pretty regularly about food, especially any new recipes we’ve tried and what we are having for dinner. I am already envisioning these kinds of phone calls with my girls when they are older, although those “phone calls” will likely be some sort of 3D holographic type of thing.

One of our favorite things to bake, of course, is cookies! I love baking from scratch, although we’ve been known to use a boxed mix once in a while. Sometimes, with 2 little ones, that is just easier. However, with all of the artificial products that are added to our food, I am a little wary of using pre-made mixes. Enter Among Friends Baking Mixes!

I was excited when the opportunity to work with Among Friends Baking Mixes came up because of our love of baking, but I really had not heard much about them before. Thanks to a quick internet search, I found out that these mixes are hand crafted, certified organic, and some are even gluten free! My favorite bit of information though, is that this business started simply, with 2 friends enjoying each other’s company over coffee and cookies!

When the mixes arrived, via USPS, I was so excited I think I may have actually danced around the kitchen a little! I could not wait to see what goodies were waiting inside for us to try. We got “Shane’s Sweet-n-Spicy” cookie mix (a gluten free molasses ginger cookie) and “Evan’s Heavenly” cookie mix (a spelt oatmeal raisin cookie).

Say it with me- YUM!

The day to  bake the cookies finally arrived! We opted to bake the Evan’s Heavenly cookies first, because oatmeal raisin cookies are a family favorite. Now, I will say I make some great oatmeal raisin cookies, but the Evan’s Heavenly cookies are literally the most amazing oatmeal raisin cookies I have ever had in my life! Because I am currently working toward a healthier lifestyle, I was very happy when I realized that 2 of these cookies are just 130 calories! I decided to have them for dessert with a cup of coffee. As I was preparing my coffee, I couldn’t wait and I took a bite of the first cookie. It was beyond delicious and before I knew it both cookies were gone and my coffee was not even finished being made! I was heavily contemplating having more, but I was good and just packaged them up for another time. According to the packaging, you can freeze these cookies and take them out as you crave them, which I think is a great idea. I opted to keep ours in a tupperware on the counter, which turned out to be a great way for our youngest to work on her problem solving skills. She found multiple ways to get that tupperware down, including dragging a chair from the dining room to the kitchen to reach the counter and trying to climb the handles on the group of kitchen drawers like it was a rock climbing wall!

In the oven they go! Don’t they look AMAZING?

Fresh out of the oven!

We really enjoyed using the mix. I love that it made baking with my 2 girls that much easier, since there was no need to measure out all of the dry ingredients. In fact, it was so easy to use a 6 and almost 2 year old did so with very little help or instruction from their mom! I am also really grateful that these mixes are filled with healthy ingredients and I can feel good about letting the girls eat them. I am already planning to order more of these mixes to keep on hand in our house. I am really looking forward to trying all of the mixes, but have had my eye on the Phil’ em Up Mix since visiting the website. These mixes would also make great gifts and if you happen to know anybody named CJ, Phil, Trish, Evan, Shane, or Suzie, they could even be personalized gifts!

Side note: I did use Shane’s Sweet and Spicy Mix a few days after writing the above review. Both mixes are amazingly delicious. Like too good to be coming from a prepackaged mix, but they did! Our youngest prefers the Evan’s Heavenly mix prefers the Shane’s Sweet and Spicy mix. I love them both and in my mind there is no clear favorite.
