Cirque Du Soleil Presents QUIDAM: A Magical Adventure for the Whole Family (#Review)

Disclosure: I received complimetary tickets to this performance in exchange for promotion and my honest review.

When I heard that our family would have the opportunity to attend the opening night performance of QUIDAM by Cirque Du Soleil, I was extremely excited. For years, I have seen beautiful commercials and teasers for Cirque Du Soleil shows, and have been wanting to see a live performance for quite some time.

As we entered Time Warner Cable Arena (I love attending events there, because the arena is so nice, and very clean!), we were greeted by twinkling lights around the stage. The show opened with the audience being 'pumped up' for the show. We were unable to take photos during the performance, because of the danger it poses to the performers.

QUIDAM tells the story of a young girl, named Zoe, who is bored and feeling ignored by her parents. She walks through a magical door and finds herself in Quidam, a place where fantastical dreams come to life. Zoe wanders from place to place in Quidam, experiencing the sights and sounds of a new world.

Quidam: a nameless passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past and swallowed by the crowd. It could be anyone, anybody. Someone coming or going at the heart of our anonymous society. A member of the crowd, one of the silent majority. The one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all. This is the "quidam" whom this show allows to speak. This is the place that beckons - a place for dreaming and genuine relations where all quidams, by proclaiming their individuality, can finally emerge from anonymity.

One of the most impressive acts of the show (to me), was a man in a steel ring cage (The German Wheel), which he spun and twirled and did incredible stunts in. There were so many amazing acts, from the graceful ribbon 'dancer,' who displayed unbelieveable strength and control as she dangled from a beautiful long red ribbon, which hung from the celing.

Also incredible to watch, was the Hand Balancing Act, where the performer twisted and moved and balanced on canes that were stationed on the stage. The stage spun around as she performed, giving the audience a full view of every angle of her movement.

Perhaps my favorite act of the entire show, was the Statue Act, where a man and woman balanced solely on each other's bodies- never losing contact with one another. I think my mouth dropped open more times during this act than any other, because these performers were simply amazing. Their movements were so beautiful, almost like a slow motion dance, and it truly made me appreciate God's creation of the human form, and what our bodies can do. This performance was absolutely flawless, and the entire audience was on the edge of their seats as we watched this incredible act.

Our family also enjoyed an act, which involved audience participation. About four audience members were pulled up onto the stage, and assisted in acting out a scence. This provided a lot of laughs, as it was pretty hilarious! It was definitely a PG-13 act, though, so be mindful of that if you have young children with you.

Quidam was truly amazing- everything about the show from the lights and costumes, to the performances and the incredible live music was everything I hoped it would be and much more. One of the folks sitting behind us during the performance said, 'It's like a fancy circus.' It was a truly fantastical performance from beginning to end, and something that all ages can appreciate and enjoy. It was lighthearted and fun, but graceful and elegant. We definitely had our eyes glued to the stage the entire time, wondering what we would be wowed with next!

We give QUIDAM by Cirque Du Soleil two thumbs up!

I cannot wait to see another Cirque Du Soleil show (they have a total of 19 shows world-wide!). I hope to be able to see a Cirque show at Disney World after Christmas! Cirque Du Soleil is just something that you have to experience- at least once. I imagine the memories will last a lifetime! Quidam is touring right now, and hopefully, they'll be headed to a city near you. You can check their tour schedule on their website.

QUIDAM by Cirque Du Soleil is at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC through Sunday, July 7th and there are still a few tickets available. To purchase your tickets, click here.
