Sometimes, a gal just wants some good old fashioned chocolate pudding. My hubby and I used to buy the devil's food instant pudding mixes and pour the pudding into a graham cracker pie shell, pop it into the fridge and then enjoy a chocolate pudding pie for dessert!

Let's make some homemade chocolate pudding!
We hadn't had pudding in quite some time, and one evening this week, that chocolate pudding craving hit... and it hit hard! I was instantly into my pantry, fumbling for the cornstarch, only to find that we had none. I took to the internet, of course, to find a recipe for pudding that I could make without the cornstarch. I finally found one that was worth a try, and decided to give it a whirl.
¾ c. sugar
¼ c. flour
1/3 c. cocoa powder
2 2/3 c. milk
4 egg yolks – beaten
1 Tbs. butter
2 tsp. vanilla
Directions:
Combine sugar, flour and cocoa powder in a saucepan.
Stir in milk. Whisk over medium heat until bubbly. Cook and stir for 2 more minutes.

Flour, sugar, cocoa powder, milk...
Remove from heat. Temper egg yolks by slowly stirring 1 cup of chocolate mixture into beaten yolks.
Return egg mixture to saucepan and return to heat. While stirring, bring to a gentle boil.
Cook and stir for 2 more minutes.

Into the bowl- ready to be chilled...
Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Stir to combine.
Pour into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Chill and serve.

Yum!
Of course, you can add whipped cream, serve with ice cream, pour it into a pie shell, etc. Enjoy it however you'd like! One thing is for sure- after you taste this homemade pudding, you'll never go back to buying a pudding mix in a box ever again! This is super delicious and it was so easy to make. This was my first attempt at making homemade pudding, and I couldn't have been happier with the results!
Enjoy!
