Little Passports Review and Giveaway

-Part of our Holiday Gift Guide 2012-
Now that Beckett is in school, his interest in learning has exploded. He has always been a kid who wants to know about the world around him, but now it he can't get enough. We do our best to teach him what we know and know where to look to find it if we don't know, but sometimes just answering his questions aren't enough. He loves to see things with his own eyes and check it out in his own way, which is wonderful and sometimes frustrating when we don't have it right there for him. We were recently introduced to a company that is helping answer and provide these experiences for Beckett that I can't always do.

Little Passports is a Mom-founded company based in San Fransisco. These two moms were looking for a fun and inspiring way to encourage an interest in the world for both their children and other children. They look to provide opportunities and experiences by mailing monthly travel packages to your mailbox. These packages are filled with exciting items to encourage their explorations. Little Passports is deeply committed to educating children about other cultures as well as improving the livelihoods of children around the globe.  They also donate one percent of sales to non-profits focused on children in other countries including SOS Children's Villages - USA and Ubuntu Education Fund.

Little Passports currently has two main products. The first product, is the "World Edition Explorer Kit", it has won multiple awards, has been featured in many publications, and has been used by teachers, parents, and celebrities. The second product, was just released is called "USA Edition". These kits teach children about the world through stickers, games, activities, photographs, and more using two characters, Sam and Sofia. Sam and Sofia travel to different places and share their experiences too.

How it works: To begin, you must register and sign up for one or both subscriptions, The World Edition (geared for ages 5-10) or USA Edition (geared for ages 7-12). Choose your subscription plans, monthly, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, or 1 year. Each plan is a different price and include slightly different options. Click here to check out the World Edition plans or here for the USA Edition plans. Each month, depending on your plan, you will receive a package filled with exciting things about your newest destination.

Our package from Little Passports has arrived!
We were sent the World Edition Explorer Kit

Inside our box was this really neat little suitcase. I love the size and color of the suitcase. The blue and green really pop and the design is very clean and simple. It has a small flip lock to keep everything securely inside and a metal handle for easy carrying.

Inside the suitcase is what you would receive as part of the first month subscription(including the suitcase). The World Edition subscription starts with the Explorer Kit which includes:
  • An introductory letter from Sam and Sofia
  • World wall map
  • Travel passport
  • Fun stickers
  • Activity sheet
  • Access to online games and activities with our boarding pass
The letter from Sam and Sofia is very easy to read and explains who they are and how they travel around to all these exciting places, they also include a photo of themselves. They explain the contents of the suitcase and what they can be used for. This pen pal style letter was really interesting for Beckett and he was pretty in to it.

B's favorite part of the whole kit is the World Map. He pulls it out and sets it wherever he can find a space and just studies it. He asks questions about words he can't figure out and asks where certain places are. He really has taken a great interest in the map.

The Travel Passport is very realistic. It includes questions, places for stamps, and is generally useful if you do to the entire subscription, for us it will be used for pretend play about travel, which is great for both kids imaginations.

The last items were some stickers of Sam and Sofia and an activity page. This page was fun for Beckett but require a lot of my help. There were codes and words he didn't know how to spell but he thought it was really interesting and informative. There was also a "Boarding Pass" that gave us access to some online activities and games, with each month there will be more things to access. We enjoyed working together on the three that we could play and B was genuinely interested in what we were doing.

While we only received the World Edition Explorer Kit, if you choose more than a one month subscription, you will receive country-specific packages filled with:
  • Adventure letters from Sam and Sofia
  • Fun souvenirs (Japan sushi eraser, Egypt pyramid dig kit and more!)
  • Stickers for your suitcase, passport and map
  • Photos
  • Activity Sheets
  • Boarding Passes to access more online games and activities
