I don't know if you've had this trouble where you live, but I live in a pretty small town, with limited shopping options. The local availability of educational toys and games is super slim, and I am a parent who would rather give my child a toy or game that will challenge him, than something that will just simply keep him occupied. Since I can never find what I'm looking for locally, I often turn to online shopping for finding the perfect age appropriate, educational toys for my son.

This holiday season, many parents and grandparents are on the hunt for educational toys for the little ones they love. We were sent an age appropriate toy for Balian to review, and he was very excited the day that his package arrived. I didn't know what we would be receiving until I got the tracking number and order confirmation, so I knew he'd love what was waiting for him in the box!


Melissa and Doug Safari Peg Wooden Puzzle


We were so excited to see this new Melissa and Doug Safari Peg Wooden Puzzle for Balian to play with, learn from and enjoy. Since he just turned two in October, he has really taken a liking to puzzles- particularly to the Melissa and Doug brand. This wooden puzzle contains a colorful puzzle board, depicting a safari scene, as well as four different animals- a 'parent' and 'baby' of each animal. It also has small red pegs attached to each puzzle piece, making them easy to spot, and pick up/put down.

Our puzzle came to us brand new, wrapped, and in excellent condition!
Balian was just itching for mommy to open this one up!


Balian wasted no time getting down on the floor with the puzzle, removing each animal puzzle peg one by one, and telling me which animals they were. It used the be frustrating to play puzzles with my little man, because he would become very frustrated with the pieces not quite fitting the way he wanted them to. Now that he's growing up, he's recognizing and understand much more, and we've had zero tantrums while playing with this wonderful learning tool. The animals also appear on the puzzle board, so when you take the puzzle pegs away, you can still see the animal on the board, which guides the child.

The wooden peg and knob puzzles available from Educational Toys Planet are really wonderful. They help little ones develop skills like Animal Recognition, Manipulative Skills, Spatial Thinking, etc. The price for this puzzle couldn't be sweeter! It's very affordable at just $7.17! Personally, I would rather spend a few dollars more on wooden puzzles, anyway- they're safer, more durable, and last a lot longer than other materials.
