Willow House: Star Spangled Bucket (Review and Giveaway

Part of our Americana Feature

I am a huge fan of home decor, and especially love adding a little festive flair to my home, indoors and out, around holidays. The Fourth of July happens to be one of my favorite holidays to decorate for (along with Christmas and Halloween). You'll be able to spot my home pretty easily around the 4th... it'll be the one with all of the patriotic bunting around the porch rails, red, white and blue star shaped garlands, etc. I don't go overboard, but like to let the neighborhood know that I am one proud American.

Willow House, a wonderful direct sales company, specializing in home decor, offered to send me their beautiful Star Spangled Bucket review. Now, I've never owned anything from Willow House, but I have spent a lot of time on their website, browsing their lovely products for the home, and making long lists of items I would love to have.

The Star Spangled Bucket shipped directly to my door from Willow House. The shipping was speedy, and the packaging was wonderful. Everything was protected to ensure that nothing was damaged during shipping.Willow House believes in simply good design, for everyone, so it was no surprise that I would fall in love with the piece they chose to send to me.

Star Spangled Bucket, right out of the box. Each star was protected, individually.

The adorable metal bucket is 13” x 4” x 20” tall, including handle, which is much larger than I expected it to be. It's a great size to hang on a door, or even on the wall. I have a nice wreath holder on my front door, and I knew it would be just the right thing to hand the Willow House Star Spangled Bucket from. The metal tin features a copper-colored handle, which is adorned with festive stars. The Star Spangled Bucket features deep red, vertical stripes, against a white background. Off centered blue stars line the top of the bucket, horizontally.

Star Spangled Bucket, hanging on my front door...

The bucket is a nice weight- it's heavy enough to hang up in a covered area on the porch, or on the door, without having to worry about it being knocked around by strong winds. It's important to note that this bucket will weather, if left unprotected outside. If you're looking to add some outdoor decor to your porch, make sure you place this in a covered area. I never have to worry about what I hang on my front door, because all wreaths or door buckets I hang are protected by my storm door.

The Star Spangled Bucket can be used to hold a number of creative displays. The bucket is not water-tight, but I was determined to use fresh flowers from my garden in it. I lined the bucket with plastic. I started with a little layer of plastic wrap, and then also lined it with a small plastic grocery bag. I then headed to the garden and snipped a few long stems of yellow lantana. I wrapped each stem in a wet paper towel, and then wrapped it in foil, to help keep it moist. Then, I just tucked the stems into the bucket, and voila- I had a gorgeous, patriotic display at my front door!

This is how I chose to create my first display with the Star Spangled Bucket from Willow House. Nice yellow blooms add an instant pop of bold color!

I stood back to admire it, and noticed that my neighbors also took notice of my hard work, and were stopping by to admire the arrangement, as well. When I went back to the front door, I noticed that a tiny little piece of paint from the bucket had chipped off. The little security chain on the front door must have rubbed against it when I closed the storm door. Thankfully, it was only just a tiny spot.

There were a couple of display ideas on the Willow House website that I liked, and may try in the next week or so, as we get closer to the Fourth of July!

Creative Display ideas from the folks at Willow House...

I love both of these looks: on the left, the Star Spangled Bucket has been filled with simple succulents, and on the right, it's filled with lovely white daisies, and adorned with a festive navy blue ribbon. You could change the look with this bucket, over and over again.

Along with this being perfect for the Fourth of July, don't forget about other great times of the year to display something like this: Flag Day, Memorial Day, 9/11, Veterans Day, Election Day, President's Day, etc. It's also a great piece to add to your collection if you're a fan of every day Americana decor!

I love this Star Spangled Bucket, and I'm sure that my family will be enjoying it for years to come. I have a big problem when it comes to Willow House, though- and that is... 9. Honestly, I don't own very much for 4th decorating. I'd love to have some accessories- the moving and renting process over the past few years just limits what I can do, cause usually during summers I've been at camps, etc.
