When Summer Gives You a Cold

There is something deeply unfair about getting sick in the summertime. Of course it always happens to me. I'm not sure if it's the fluctuations in temperatures from outside to inside, but without fail I get a summer cold every year.

I've spent months waiting for warm weather, longer days, sunshine, and lazy evenings outside—and then my body decides it needs a vacation of its own. Except instead of a beach chair and a cold drink, I'm stuck on the couch with tissues, cough drops, and a box of medicine.

A summertime cold just hits differently. You wake up thinking, Maybe I’ll feel better today, only to realize your throat hurts, your nose is completely stuffed, and somehow you're exhausted before you've even had your morning coffee and because it’s summer, everyone else is outside enjoying themselves. You can hear the lawnmowers, the kids playing, the neighbors laughing, and the world carrying on while you're wrapped in a blanket wondering how you managed to get sick when it’s 85 degrees outside.

So if you're currently battling a summertime cold, know you're not alone. Grab your favorite blanket, your biggest cup of something comforting, put on a movie or open a good book, and let yourself rest.

Summer will still be waiting when you feel better. And honestly? There are worse ways to spend a day than curled up with a book, even if the tissues are winning the battle.

Here’s to feeling better, resting without guilt, and getting back to enjoying summer soon. ☀️❤️
