No Microwave? No Problem! Meet the UVI Self-Heating Lunchbox

Thanks to UVI for this lunchbox. All thoughts are my own.

On my quest for not skipping meals, eating semi- healthy, and not wasting money on take-out lunches several times a week, I am trying really hard to take my lunches to work when I have long days and know I can't sneak home.

While we are lucky that our office has access to a small kitchenette with microwave, I've been in many situations where there is no way to warm up food. I'm not a big fan of leftovers but it's an easy way to not waste food and grab an extra meal, especially if you know that you have a late afternoon meeting, followed by a dog walk, followed by an evening meeting and it might be 8 pm before you get into your own kitchen.

The UVI Self- Heating Lunch Box is perfect for us office dwellers who might live at our desk and computers! Maybe even for off campus college students heading over to campus all day and don't have time to head back to their apartments too.

This portable lunch box heats up via a usb-c cord and a brick. One caveat- the brick can't be your normal run of the mill phone brick. The charging brick (or adaptor, if you use that language) needs to be a USB PD fasting charging of at least 60 W for the lunch box to function.

I will need to purchase a fast charging PD brick, but borrowed a colleagues for a couple days while he was out of the office.

If you have access to a microwave and can leave your desk, that will take less time than this unit, but if you are desk-bound, this is the perfect way to warm your food.

I can see myself using it in and out of the office as well- perhaps on trips where I might have leftovers but not necessarily a microwave available.

For this stir-fry, there was a lot in the unit, so it took about 25 mins to warm up. I imagine that if I had less food or a different type, it probably wouldn't take as long.

The unit comes with the detachable USB-C cord and a sliding divider for inside to compartmentalize foods.  There are two buttons on the top, along with the clasp, and the top vent.

Before pressing the "heat" button, be sure to pop the vent to allow steam to escape.

There is an insulated liner inside the box that allows meals to stay warm for up to 2 hours. It is recommended that you keep the lunch box cool, either in a fridge or in a lunch bag with coolers though.

If your foods need continious cold storage, then you probably will want to utilize some sort of cooling method for food safety purposes (fridge, lunchbox w/ ice pack, etc).

Do not submerge the unit when cleaning, but be sure to clean the inside with soap. There is a santization option if you desire too (don't forget to put in your eating utensils when selecting that option!).

This back to school season, the UVI lunchbox would come in handy for:
  • college students on campus all day
  • working professionals who don't want to spend extra $$ on their lunches
  • moms who are super busy and on the go
  • teachers who don't get much of a lunch break/ access to break room
  • travelers who want to save on food costs when away
Grab your UVI lunchbox for a healthier start to the new academic year! Maybe you can even start saving up for the holiday season.
