There’s something especially rude about negative temperatures. Zero already feels an agreement between humans and Mother Naure that this is cold enough and yet Mother Naure looks at zero, laughs, and keeps going. Are we sure her real name isn't Elsa?
When temperatures drop below zero, it means the air holds very little heat energy. At that point, exposed skin loses warmth faster than your body can replace it, which is why cold like this hurts. It’s not dramatic it’s physics. Wind chill makes it worse. The wind strips away the thin layer of warmth your body creates, turning an already bitter day into something that feels downright hostile. That’s how a calm -5°F day can feel survivable, while a windy 10°F day can feel like punishment.
Negative temperatures don’t just affect people they alter daily life in quiet but powerful ways: Cars groan before starting, if they start at all, snow stops being fluffy and turns sharp and squeaky, pipes become a constant worry, and even silence sounds colder.
Please bundle up if you have to go outside. Give yourself enough time to travel, and if you can travel when the sun is out as it is easier to see black ice or areas where it may be. Winter is when everything and everyone slows down. Take in the slowness of it. Enjoy your time
Spring is coming.
