The holidays are over, the decorations are packed away, and suddenly the world feels quieter...almost too quiet. The days are shorter, the nights feel longer, and motivation doesn’t always show up when we expect it to. If you’ve been feeling a little low, a little off, or emotionally tired, you’re not alone. The January blues are real and they don’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.
Let Go of the Pressure to “Start Fresh”
There’s a lot of noise in January telling us to reinvent ourselves overnight. New habits, new routines, new goals. But healing, growth, and energy don’t follow a calendar. It’s okay if January isn’t your month of productivity. Sometimes it’s just a month of rest. I equate January to being very heavy filled winter boots. They keep your feet warm, but it's very hard to trudge through.
January doesn’t need big plans just small comforts. A favorite show, a new book, a cozy recipe, a simple routine that feels grounding. Tiny joys matter more than we realize during this time of year. I happen be snuggling up with a good book, because it is too cold to be outside. Remind me again why I live where it snows.
So if you’re moving slowly, resting more, or simply getting through the days know that you’re doing just fine. Spring will come. Light will return. In my funny words, dark o'clock doesn't last forever. Until then, be gentle with yourself.
