Tidy- Up Thursdays: Shower Curtain Replacement

How often do you replace your shower curtains and/ or liners? I am working from home this week, due to some auto woes, and am blessed to have the time to do some tidy-up tasks in between staring at the church website and YouTube pages for hours. It's also officially October, which means some weather changes and not so humid days! Perhaps that even means less humidity in the bathroom!

One of my tasks has been to replace my shower curtain. I purchased a washable curtain & liner duo in 2021.

While I am far from perfect, I try to incorporate simple, easy tasks into my cleaning routine; such as purchasing washable shower liners. Not only does it help the environment, it helps the pocket!

After 4 years, the set had bitten the dust. Here in Wilmington, our water has manganese and iron in it, which means that those pesky red-colored stains will never come out. Then, my curtain and liner started to get that moldy mildewy stain at the bottom too, which no amount of bleach or oxyclean touched.

After a while, it's just better to replace and start over! It's also my understanding that plastic shower curtains can be washed in the machine too, although I always had little success with it.

While I was changing the shower curtain, I figured I might as well take advantage and start with a clean, fresh tub area. I grabbed my electric spin brush and went on my way to beautifying the walls, tub, and sides.

I try to minimalize big cleaning days as much as possible by doing things throughout the week:

  • quickly wipe down the counters when I noticed toothpaste buildup
  • clean toilet seat, handles, sides a couple of times a week to prevent buildup and grossness.
  • take a wet mop or old towel to get up any water after showers. This helps keep the floors and walls from absorbing too much water, but also helps with product and dirt build up too.
  • through toiletries and actually throw away stuff I no longer use!

When everything is done together at one time, it's a big task to clean the bathroom. If a few minutes are taken here and there every day, perhaps before bed, or right before hopping in the shower, those tasks lessen, and it's not as big of a deal to tidy-up!

The same applies for the rest of the household! Although, I still hate mopping floors :)
