Real Mom Talk: When Does Life Get Easier?

I don’t know about you, but some days I find myself asking, “When does this whole mom thing get easier?”

I’m a mom of a teen, a tween, and a preschooler, and honestly, most days I feel like I’m being pulled in a million different directions. My teen needs guidance with friendships and identity, my tween has emotions that swing like a pendulum, and my preschooler is full of energy and curiosity that leaves me wiped out before 10 a.m. Add in the never-ending laundry piles, work deadlines, and trying to put a meal on the table that everyone will eat (without complaint), and I’m left thinking—Lord, I can’t do this.

And the truth? I can’t. Not in my own strength.

Motherhood doesn’t magically get easier. It just gets different. Each season brings its own joys and challenges. Gone are the sleepless nights with a newborn, but here are the sleepless nights worrying about your teen’s choices. Gone is the toddler tantrum in the grocery store, but here is the tween eye-roll that cuts deep. Gone are the endless diapers, but here is the chaos of sports schedules, school projects, and endless drop-offs.

But here’s what I’m learning: God never asked me to do this alone.

When I feel like I’m not enough (and I feel that way a lot), I go back to 2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

I might not be enough for every need my kids have, but Jesus is. And He trusted me with these children, in this season, with my set of strengths and weaknesses, for a reason.

So maybe life doesn’t exactly get easier—it gets heavier in some ways, but also richer, deeper, and more beautiful as we lean into Christ.

To the mom in the trenches today: you’re not failing. You’re not behind. You’re not less-than. You’re exactly where God has called you to be, and He will equip you for the work He’s placed in front of you.

Motherhood will always stretch us thin, but maybe that’s so we’ll stop trying to do it all in our own strength and start depending fully on Him.

So let’s breathe, mama. Let’s remind ourselves that God’s mercies are new every morning. Tomorrow is another chance to try again—with Him leading the way.

And when you’re asking, “When does life get easier?”—remember this: maybe the goal isn’t for it to be easier, but for us to grow stronger in faith, deeper in love, and more dependent on the One who called us to this holy, messy, beautiful work called motherhood.

You are not alone. You are doing better than you think. And you are loved by a God who sees every sacrifice you make, even the ones no one else notices.

A Prayer for Tired Moms

Lord, thank You for the gift of motherhood. You see my exhaustion, my doubts, and the moments when I feel like I’m not enough. Remind me that Your grace is sufficient, and that You have equipped me for this calling. Help me to find joy in the little moments, patience when I feel stretched thin, and peace in knowing You are guiding my children’s steps. Strengthen me to love them well, and let them see Your love through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
