What type of bread ends up on your holiday table? Growing up, our traditional Thanksgiving holiday always had bread, and I always thought that was the best part of the meal! Usually they were cheap white enriched dinner rolls with a split in the center, but I thought they were so good!
It wasn't until I was an adult, after traveling around Europe, that I realized how bad some of our American bread actually is for us! While bread bakeries do exist here in Wilmington, I always struggle to consume it before it goes bad. Now, don't get me wrong, I still love a good parker house roll and/or yeast roll (especially if it's homemade), but when I found out about The Brot Box, I knew my taste buds would be in heaven!
The Brot Box, a US- German company, sends German bread directly to our doors. They aim to provide quality products that aren't full of preservatives and chemicals, but rather delicious breads full of nutritious ingredients. Partially baked breads arrive that were created and baked in Germany, as Germany has better flour options and stricter quality control when it comes to additives and preservatives in foods.
Upon arrival, it's recommend that you freeze what you don't want to consume. Baking the frozen bread is relatively quick as well, making it fast and easy to pull out bread for breakfast, lunch, or evening meals. It's also a variety, so that you can select what you need, as different breads have a purpose in German culture.
The Brot Box sent over lots of goodies for me to try out:

Pretty much all these breads went straight into the freezer and I have pulled them out as needed. So far I've tested the Power rolls, The Swiss Farmer's Loaf, and the Oktoberfest Pretzels.
German breads (well, most European bread) has a texture and structure that is crispier and harder than our soft American breads. The Brot Box breads have lots of flavor and texture to them, and I look forward to enjoying the others throughout the fall.
The Low Carb Power rolls are the perfect way to start your morning. In Germany, breakfasts are often a selection of meats, breads, cheeses, and spreads. This is to fill them up and get some good nutrition in them, unlike our sugary pop tarts and toasts.
Per roll, 17 grams of protein, 19 seeds, and 7 grams of fiber can be found, which is a great way to kick off your morning digestive and metabolism tracks! Use one of the Brot box spreads or select your own jams/ spreads and be on your way to a fulfilling breakfast. I also found these to be great rolls for dinner as well. They are a great additive to meats, soups, pastas, and the like. It only takes about 10 minutes of baking after a 30 minute defrost. Pull them out before you go to sleep for defrosting and bake them while in the shower or getting your kids ready for school!

The Swiss Farmer's Sourdough Loaf is for you! This is a wheat sourdough loaf that will surely satiate any bread cravings you might have. Perfect for scooping up that leftover pasta sauce, gravy, etc., this bread only takes about 18 minutes to bake, but does have a longer defrost need, so be sure to plan ahead when you want to use it for dinner!
I used this bread for bruschetta, sandwiches, and garlic toast!

What I like about the Brot Box is that I don't have to go roaming around town to find the breads that I like or want. Sure, we have bakeries as I've mentioned, and they have great breads, but I love being able to have partially baked breads that I can freeze and pull out when I'm ready. As someone on the go, I know that the loaf of sourdough or the baguette I get will go bad before I can eat it! Yes, of course, I could freeze those options as well, but it's easier to pull out one roll or one bretzel when I live alone.
I think this is the perfect holiday gift too! Gift your family members before visiting, so that they don't have to think much about food between hosting. Gift your friends who are moving into a new home. Gift your newly married friends too (after all, it's wedding season here in coastal NC). Gift your college students/ young adults who just moved into their own apartment, and you know they don't eat properly!
Best of all, gift yourself. The holidays are madness, right? School events, parties, shopping, decorating-leaves little time for proper meals. Having the Brot Box breads in your freezer will make the season happier and easier! Plus, save you some time and energy on figuring out what you need for meals!
