Home Reno Update: The Kitchen is Coming Along

Hello, lovelies! Happy almost Friday! We're well into the first week of school where I live, and I am overjoyed that the weekend is almost here. Weekends can be busy for our family, but this weekend (outside of Sunday worship responsibilities) is dedicated to working on our kitchen.

Our kitchen is coming along nicely. All cabinets are in place, as well as appliances. Our new light fixture was installed last Sunday, and I am loving it. This weekend, Sacha will be working on dry-fitting our hickory countertops, and then removing them for staining and sealing. Unfortunately, this means that I will have to go back to a temporary makeshift countertop around the stove and sink, but it's a step closer to having our actual countertops finished and installed, and ready for use. Woo hoo!

There are still some things to do in the kitchen after the countertops go in:
Stove vent installation + Custom box/cover build and install
Backsplash tile installation
Toe kick installation
Cabinet Trim Installation
Window replacement
Window trim installation
Final Paint- walls + ceiling

It seems like there's still a lot to do (and there is), but these are honestly the last few 'little things' left on our list after countertop installation.

My frustration has been the length of time this kitchen reno has taken, especially doing it ourselves vs hiring out. We're busy, especially my husband, so time can be short to work on these projects. I've tried to be patient, but as you can imagine, it isn't always easy... especially with chaotic schedules and a full house (three kiddos).

But look where we started...

-Before photo, prior to closing, and a complete gut.

We ripped everything out of the kitchen, Everything. Started completely from scratch, restored the original hardwood floors, updated the electricity, relocated appliances, all new appliances, light fixtures, cabinets- everything! What an expense, and what a lengthy project!

I keep having to go back and look at old photos of the kitchen 'before' we started this project to remind myself of how far we've come with it. It does look like a completely different kitchen, and while we might decide to change a few things here or there down the road, we know we made the right decision to scrap the old kitchen and start over. The space is much brighter, it's updated, the warmth and charm of this 100 year old house is still there, and it's much more functional.

I'm proud of what we've done, and how hard Sacha has worked to give me what I envisioned for this space. I'll be so happy to be able to give this kitchen a little chef's kiss, and move on to the downstairs bathroom, and our butler's pantry for renovations.
