As a cable cord cutter years ago, I rely on streaming to get my daily dose of entertainment in the form of sitcoms and reality shows. There are now, of course, a TON of streaming networks, and it can be hard to choose which ones to keep and which ones to ditch.
Hulu is probably my top streaming provider right now, despite access to Netflix and Disney +. Recently, I found myself browsing through 1990's entertainment and found Buffy, which is perfect for spooky season! Then, a couple of newer shows have started that I've attached too as well.
1) Since it's October, it's time to bring the macabre and spooky on! What could be better than Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Airing from 97 to 03, this 7 year series teaches us how to kick butt against all forms of demons, vampires, and evil.
I have to admit, I walk the dog around 10 pm, and one night recently got spooked at the rustling of branches, so maybe there are vampires out there. Buffy, teach me some of your moves, please? Guess I need to start training!
2) Snake Oil. This tv show name has nothing to do with snakes. Or oil. It's a reality show in which contestants try to determine if a product is real or fake. The term "Snake Oil" dates back to the 1800's, when people pitched various concoctions, claiming that the ingredients had magical powers to heal ailments. The reality is that many of these products did the opposite of their claims. People bought them, unknowingly, as the sellers deceived many customers. The term has stuck and basically refers to anything that might be worthless that's marketed as something amazing.
This show is kind of hilarious. Hosted by David Spade, various celebrities and contestants must determine which products are snake oil and which ones are real, and invest real dollars in the meantime.
3) Kitchen Nightmares. Ah, Gorden Ramsey is back and heading into the worst kitchens imaginable. I love this kind of show. Gorden's ultimate goal is to help owners and managers back to a sustainable business. The way he does that.. well, may be questionable, but it's definitely entertainment!
What's disgusting is how often kitchens don't clean their equipment.. eek.. makes ya wonder about your favorite eating establishment! Better go check the cleanliness of your kitchen and determine how long that piece of chicken has been marinading in the back of your fridge!
What shows are you watching these days?
