I know that prime TV watching time is late in the evening; after the kids are asleep, the school lunches made, and the dishes have been loaded into the dishwasher. You sit down with your glass of wine, cup of tea, whatever and start folding the laundry, scrolling your favorite streaming network to find something to watch.
Here have been some of my favorite shows recently:
1) How I Met Your Father. Now, I know all the HIMYM fans out there might retaliate, but hear me out. The basic premise is the same: the stories about how a group of friends navigates life, the dating scene, etc. as young 30s singles. For me, this is still applicable because I'm in my late 30s and single. I don't make the mistakes that they do, but I can relate because the dating game is HARD. Hilary Duff, Francia Raisa, and Chris Lowell are some of my favorite actors in this series. The series is not the same as HIMYM (which has attracted a lot of criticism) but it's not intended to be. There are nuances that refer to HIMYM but it's set in a different time and still makes me laugh just as much! Found on Hulu.
2) Night Agent: This new Netflix series is about government corruption, mystique, murder, and more.. Probably leading to some sort of love story! I'm only halfway through it, and it can be intense, so I've been taking my time. Its basic premise is some secret agents were killed, their niece finds out and is placed into FBI protection.. And it all goes downhill from there as she and her "FBI agent protector" try to uncover what in the world is going on. It's already been renewed for a second season as it ranks third best in Netflix release viewership.
3) The Way Home: This Hallmark Channel original is hard to come by if you don't have access to Hallmark at all. It is a time travel story that touches on grief & family but also includes some mystery as you will get caught up in the story. Basically, the plot focuses on mom and teenage daughter. Teen daughter finds out she can time travel back to when her mom was a teen, befriends her family, and then the mom finds out.. and travels back to try to save her brother & father from death and disappearance. Its not as mushy-gooshy as most Hallmark tv shows and I've quite enjoyed it. The season is over, but you can find it on Hallmark streaming, Peacock, Amazon, Apple TV, etc.
4) Ghosts: This CBS comedy is a remake of the 2019 BBC series. It focuses on a married couple that inherits and estate. They decide to turn it into a Bread & Breakfast then discover the house is full of ghosts.. that one of them can see! As with most comedies, the scripts are entertaining and range from discovering how each ghosts dies to how they impact the B&B, to how they try to live their lives stuck in a house but not with boredom!
5) The Rookie: This ABC comedy starts Nathan Fillion, a second career LAPD officer that navigates the challenges of being the oldest officer on his force. The series focuses on his squad, the obstacles they face in the public along with the obstacles they face with their friendships and relationships. I personally like the scripts and the actors do a fabulous job. Currently, in its 5th season, the Rookie has not been officially renewed for season 6, but It's expected to do so. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some cast changes.
