Lamenting the Loss of Cheese in My Diet

Welp...it happened! The doctor told me I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)! Now what? Cut out dairy!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOO!

I have a lifelong love of dairy products - butter, cheese, yogurt, milk, all the things. The thought of giving it all up made me very sad. It also means buying two sets of the same thing, one for the fam and then the items for me. However, to my surprise, the whole family shared that they wouldn't mind trying dairy free with me. Yay! That makes things a little easier on the pockets.

So, I began looking at my refrigerator to see what I would need to replace. While I lament the loss of the things I knew, I am enjoying seeing all the alternatives out there - even ice cream! There are plant-based, non-dairy products galore at various grocery stores and of course, on Amazon as well.

I eat more fruits and veggies now as well as drink milk alternatives - my favorite is oat milk. I do use lactose-free milk in my cereal because I prefer the texture. It is amazing how much better I feel and how much less time I am spending in the restroom.

My family is purposeful about our meals now. We look for recipes, plan meals together, and purchase items we think we all may enjoy. So while I am sad about losing the known, I am finding that the unknown not only makes my body feel better but has also been something that has brought my family together.
