My 5 Favorite Halloween Movies I'll watch this weekend

Pull out your costumes, because it's time for one of my favorite times of year: Halloween! Sure, Halloween has some creepy origins dating back to Celtic life in the past- well before "civilized culture". For a historical update, go check it out on Brittancia.

I choose to avoid the horror and mayhem of this season and focus on the good ole fashioned fun of Halloween! To me, its fun to dress up, see kids in costumes, and watch my favorite Halloween movies. (PS- no Michael Myers for me, please).

1) My All-time favorite Movie is Hocus Pocus. This is a 90's movie that people either love or hate. I've heard a few people comment along the way that they have never seen it at all. Between the antics of the Sanderson Sisters (perfected by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy), the quips of Zombie Billy Butcherson, and the antics of teenagers everywhere, I always find myself loving this film.

2) The Haunted Mansion: This 2003 Eddie Murphy movie isn't for the faint of heart. It has a creepy factor that can make me shiver, especially when ghosts pop up here and there. Yet, it has a dramatic flair and a family element that I love! Just, emm, don't get caught in a mansion by a ghost longing for his lost love, k?

3) The Tower of Terror: Released in October 97, Steve Guttenberg, Kirsten Dunst, and other spooky characters will have us double-checking the mirrors the next time we enter a hotel elevator. If the lights start flickering, I'm out!

4) Beetlejuice- Okay, I admit, growing up I was totally grossed out by this movie. As an adult, I've come to appreciate Tim Burton's style. Yet, it doesn't mean this movie is exactly wholesome for the kids. Afterall, Beetlejuice does trick Lydia into marrying him.. and there is the whole afterlife in hell thing too. Just don't say his name three times fast, because, I don't know about you, but I don't want this demon trickster to come into my home!

5) Practical Magic: this late 90's movie falls last on my list, but its still a must-see. Some romance, some drama, some magic.. "there might be a little witch in all of us"..

What are your favorite Halloween Movies?
Are you one of those thrasher horror film types or the more Disney-esque type of Halloween?

Boo to You and Happy Halloween everyone!
