I am a mama to two pre-teen guys and lately, I have found myself seeking encouragement from the Lord and His word.
Whether you have a middle school girl or boy, big changes are happening. Being a boy mom, this is kind of new territory for me. I went through it myself as a young woman and would perhaps feel more equipped to handle a teen girl simply because I was one. However, with boys, I am relying on the Holy Spirit, my natural instincts as a mom and my husband's memory of what it was like to be that age.
The Bible is not a last resort for me, as a Christian. However, sometimes, I admit it can become that. I can try to dig into my repertoire of resources and reach the very bottom of the barrel when what I should do is consult the One who made my son. He knows my son and He knows me better than I could begin to. Why do we sometimes rely on very limited selves to solve our day-to-day problems?
The middle school years are difficult for our kids because they are being bombarded with so many different avenues of information. If they are not secure in their faith, they could become disillusioned by the influences around them.
I've put together a few verses that are important to me as a mom when I'm guarding my heart with the truth of God's word. I wanted to write them down in a place that I could refer to in the future and perhaps you could do the same.
John 5:24 - Whomever believes will have eternal life.
Romans 12:1 - Dedicate your life to the Lord.
Philippians 4:8 - Think on what is true and good.
1 Timothy 6:17 - Value is not on monetary wealth.
Ephesians 4:29 - Use loving language.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 - Encourage one another.
Now is time to draw near to our preteens. They need us more now than every before, though they act like the opposite is true!
Blessings,
