Things That Dads Need To Be Aware Of During The Third Trimester

It frequently happens that dads are overlooked when it comes to their partners being pregnant and everyone dedicates a great deal of their time to the mother while forgetting all about the soon-to-be dad. It’s understandable because mom is the one who was carrying around this bundle of joy for at least nine months and she will be the one that has to go through the birthing process. However, it seems only fair that dads should be involved in the whole process and it can be very confusing for a new father when he doesn’t know what to expect and what is required of him. The third trimester is a particularly difficult time because the baby is starting to grow a lot and mom’s hormones are very likely going through the roof.

Men need a better understanding of what to expect in the third trimester and so the following will attempt to educate you dads about what’s going on and why moms do and say the things that they do. Hopefully after reading this article, you will be a bit more clued into what’s going on and how to react.

  • Motherly instincts - You have probably watched many wildlife documentaries where it shows the mother getting everything ready for the birth of a child and a human mother is exactly the same. The mom to be is going to want to do lots of preparation like worrying about the child’s diet and you will find that your partner will be a lot fussier than she normally is. It’s likely that she is going to want to chain the house completely and you will be the guy to step in to do all of the work. It may be that you’re going to have to give her reassurance that everything is okay, but if she is not accepting of that then it’s up to you to help clean the house and to give it a lick of paint.

  • Make her feel loved - Your partner’s hormones are going to be up and down during the whole pregnancy and her body is going to be changing in ways that she’s not going to be awfully happy about. It’s up to you to give reassurances and to pamper her whenever possible. Setting aside an evening where you just take care of her needs and maybe even offer a foot rub is an excellent idea.

  • Do your own research - An expectant mother has many questions that need to be answered and so it is an excellent idea for you to do some research and to look into the whole pregnancy process and especially when it comes to baby arriving. You should be organising some kind of hospital bag that will contain everything that mom and the new baby could possibly need.

  • Let her know how you feel - This is a very emotional time for everyone and so it’s perfectly normal for you to be somewhat apprehensive about what’s going to happen and so there is no shame in telling your wife what’s going on in your head and how you feel emotionally. She is there to help you as much as you are there to help her with regard to paternity benefits and together you can both come up with all of the answers.

  • Try to enjoy the whole thing - I know this is a lot easier said than done but you need to remember that you’re going to become a dad in a few months and then your life is going to change forever. It’s a very exciting time that you are going through right now and so try to live in the moment and appreciate that there is a new life inside your partner’s tummy and you’re going to meet him or her very soon.

This is a very short list of the many things that need to be done and so you, as the new dad, need to be prepared for all of them. Your partner is going to feel very tired in her third trimester and so it is up to you to encourage her to try to do a little bit of exercise every single day which is good for her and for your unborn baby as well. There are many classes out there specifically designed for expectant mothers and so you need to find out about those as well.
