Recently, I saw a meme floating around Facebook about how adults need pizza after accomplishing their summer reading like their children. As a child participant of the Pizza Hut BookIT program, I can say I don't need pizza as a bonus to accomplish any reading! Summer reading just comes naturally too me. Whether it's traveling, sitting by the pool, on my patio, or with my feet in the sand, one can typically find a book nearby (I admit, most of these days, it's my Kindle with a library e-book).  The only way I can't read is in the car- I still get carsick. 

When I heard about Sweet Reads Box, I was super excited because I love finding new authors and being surprised by new products! Sweet Reads is a subscription box company that is for book lovers! Each month has a themed box full of items related to that month's read. 

Subscriptions can be chosen in 12, 6, 3, and 1 month increments. Boxes arrive with a sweet read (ie- a fiction novel),  gourmet foods and drinks, and artisanal items.  Typically,  the book is a best-selling or newly released fiction novel. Three to four items will be chosen to match the book's storyline or characters, along with a drink and sweet treat. 

Sweet Reads sent over their Lessons in Chemistry Box, which was their April 2022 box. Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus, is about a 1960s woman who fights for her career in a man's world as a Chemist. Eventually, she makes her way into a TV cooking show, growing along the way. 

The Lessons in Chemistry box included:  a California based Lemon Square Company treat, Alpine Co Instant Coffee, a Danica Dish towel, Gourmet du Village Marinara mix, Endur Lab Goal socks, Supper at Six Soda biscuit mix, Supper at Six Italian Noodle, Lessons in Chemistry Pencil and a custom notepad. The author also includes an original note for sweet readers. 

Lessons in Chemistry was on the April's New York Times bestseller list. I'm only about a third of the way into the novel, but I've been generally surprised. It's hard for me to accept the writing style of novelists that I'm not familiar with, but this book is full of witty dialogue and issues that women still face on a daily basis, let alone in the 50s and 60s. I'm looking forward to finishing up the book and seeing how the main character leans into her new discovery as a chemist in a cooking show. 

I love how the box includes a novel, a sweet treat, a drink, and some items related to the novel. In this particular one, the foodie items make sense as the novel is about cooking. I have to admit, the box arrived in the middle of North Carolina's heat wave and there is no way I'm standing over a stove to make marinara sauce or pasta (in fact, heat makes me want to eat LESS), so I'll be saving those goodies for another day! 

There are several options for purchasing a Sweet Reads box. Currently, five boxes are available for individual purchase. These are boxes that were part of subscriptions over the past few months.

Subscription boxes are not shared until after they are shipped, so they remain a surprise! Sweet Treats might try to give hints through their social media, but they don't seem to share right away.

If you like surprises, then the subscription is for you, but if you prefer certain genres or knowing what your box might hold, then waiting and grabbing one of the individuals might be the better choice. 

This summer, if you are looking for a great gift for the book lover in your life, then Sweet Reads is certainly for them! Send an individual box or surprise your loved one with a subscription. Each box is exciting and full of wonderful items that they will enjoy! As an avid reader with a summer birthday, I can definitely say that if one of these boxes arrived at my door, I would fall in love with it! I'd also probably have the book read by the end of that week too!
