Whether you’re close to home or are taking a trip by plane, there are plenty of ways to pack for the beach without missing something. From baby swimwear to essential baby supplies, we’ll tell you what you’ll need for relaxing and exploring. You’ll also learn which items will keep your luggage lighter while making it easier to find everything you need for your little one.

Beach-Friendly Baby Clothes

The best baby girl and baby boy clothes for the beach feature fun colors and lightweight fabrics for keeping your child comfortable. They’re also easy to mix and match, so you don’t have to pack too much clothing in your duffel. Have everything you need to dress your baby without overpacking with this list:

Baby Swimwear

Pack one or two swimsuits for the entire trip. If you plan on swimming or getting wet, you can use the extra suit while the other one is drying. A rash guard and trunks set for baby boys are cute and stylish, but it becomes an even better choice when it’s made with Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) fabric. Block up to 98 percent of the sun’s harmful rays with swim sets that combine protection with fashion.

A baby girl’s one-piece bathing suit with a matching rash guard will safeguard her from the sun, no matter what temperature it is at the shoreline. Accessorize baby girl or baby boy swimwear with a bucket hat made with UPF 50+ material. You’ll find plenty of hats to match your child’s swimsuit. Colorful sandals with buckles or straps can help to complete your baby’s photo-ready beach outfit.

Bodysuits and Dresses

Cotton bodysuits and dresses are lightweight and make it easy to change your baby. These features are especially helpful when it’s warm outside or when there’s plenty of water and sand nearby. If you’re going on a trip that lasts a week, take three to five one-pieces and let your child play with their legs bare. If you’re going to a restaurant or relaxing at your resort, your infant can wear their bodysuit with a pair of pull-on shorts.

Dresses are an excellent choice in baby girl clothes because they’re easy to wear and they make for adorable photos. Find everything from floral prints to tie-dye patterns to inspire your beachy vibe. Take a couple of dresses with you so you can dress your baby after an afternoon by the water. They’re also a cute choice for socializing with friends or going out to dinner.

Vacation-Ready Sleepwear

When it comes to baby sleepwear for vacation, you don’t have to over-complicate your child’s outfits. If you have access to a washer and dryer, they can wear the same bodysuits they use for their daytime clothing. If you’re not willing to use an outfit more than once, baby gowns are lightweight and make it easy to change your baby overnight, especially when you’re doing it in a new place.

Sleepwear sets with matching tops and bottoms will give you the flexibility to dress baby in pants or shorts. You’ll also have a couple of short sleeve shirts to have your child wear on separate nights. Shop for a bundle that comes in vacation-ready prints like bananas or avocados. You can also choose a pack in shades of aqua or blue to evoke the colors of the ocean.

Water-Resistant Baby Essentials

If you plan on letting your baby play in the sand or want to dip them in the water, you’ll need to bring at least one reusable swim diaper. Regular diapers are not recommended for the beach because they will soak up water like a sponge and are more susceptible to leaks than the swimming variety. A reusable swim diaper is better for your vacation than throwaway swim diapers because it won’t take up too much space in your suitcase. They’re also eco-friendly.

Find a swim diaper that comes with a small drawstring to help keep it secure. You can find ones in different prints and colors to match your baby’s swimsuit or rash guard. Another helpful accessory is a wet bag, which helps to keep damp or sandy clothing from dirtying your backpack or diaper bag. Fold it or roll it up in your luggage or your baby’s carry-on bag for easy storage. A portable changing pad made from an easy-care material will repel water. Take it with you to keep beach towels clean.

Travel-Size Baby Supplies

If you consider just how many baby supplies you use on a daily basis, it can be overwhelming to think about packing them for a family beach trip. The best way to take everything you need is to invest in travel-size products. If you research online or shop at your favorite baby store, they may carry travel sets that include your favorite toiletries and nursery favorites for infants.

You’ll need baby shampoo and body wash, as well as a lotion for moisturizing their skin. Other helpful mini-size products include baby wipes and diaper rash cream. If you want to minimize your impact on the environment, purchase a set of travel-sized bottles. Add your baby’s soaps and creams from the larger-sized products you have in your bathroom.

Additional Beach-Ready Accessories

Infants have unique needs and preferences at every stage. Consider some of these beach-friendly items for babies and then decide if your child needs them for your vacation. These include sunglasses for protecting their eyes and keeping them comfortable while they spend time outside.

A portable mini fan will attach to seats and strollers to help keep your child cool. You’ll also find carrying cases and travel-sized sterilization wipes for pacifiers, as well as fold-up travel bassinets if you think you may need somewhere safe and portable for your newborn to rest.

Packing Smart for Your Family Beach Vacation

Parents must be creative, especially when it comes to packing. If it’s time for a beach vacation, you can make your bags lighter by choosing the right clothes and essentials for your child. Thankfully, there are plenty of outfits and baby supplies out there designed to make life easier, all while having more fun. When you take the time to plan and shop for your beach vacation, you’re sure to have the right items while making the most of your time together.
