Happy Monday, friends! Are you as messed up from the time change as I am? I shared on Facebook over the weekend that it's been a few years since I've navigated 'spring forward' with a baby. When we fell back a few weeks after Baby C was born, everyone was overjoyed for the extra hour of sleep, and it took zero adjustments on our part, or the baby's. The spring time change is completely different, however, making it so hard on our little one, and us as parents.
I'm lucky that my older kids are perfect chameleons. They adjust so well to surroundings, and time changes. Thank you, Lord! I am old and set in my ways, so the spring time change messes me up completely. It did also cause a few problems yesterday with Baby C. Her usual four 30 minute naps didn't happen during the day, and she fell asleep around 7 pm, which would have been fine- but to her body, it was only 6 pm, and that translated to nap time, not bedtime. We were up until well past 9 pm, and she was up nearly every hour through the night. I am desperate to get her back on track. Trying my best, but there's only so much I can do. In the end, she'll either set a new routine to her own rhythm, or I'll have to force a schedule, which I don't want to do.
My son and I are super schedule-oriented. If one thing gets off schedule by even just a few minutes, everything else might go awry. Yikes! Wiggle room isn't something I have much of, and my husband is constantly pushing me to allow for more of it. I need to- it's hard, though.
The Bible gives us a good word on change.
If you're struggling like I am today, with the idea that change is hard (yes, even something as simple as a time change), let me leave you with a reminder... our God is unchanging, and so is His love for us.
Hebrews 13:8: 'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.'
Yes, friends, He remains the same- His love never changes, His promises remain, and His love never fails.
I shared the above photo because my 6-month-old is one determined little girl. She's pushing past the disruption of the time change and still trying to figure out life. She's still smiling, still working hard to figure out how to crawl, and how to fit all of the things into her day. She doesn't yet know the heartaches and hardships of this world, but that's for another day. God gives us the opportunity to decide that we're going to make our lives as good as we can by loving, serving, showing mercy and kindness to all.
With St. Patrick's Day around the corner, I keep thinking of rainbows. When I think of rainbows, of course, I'm reminded of God's promises. I hope you are, too! Yes, change can be a bear, but God is good, He is faithful, fulfills His promises, and He is with us through this change and all of the rest of them.
Wishing you a week filled with God's love, and lots of rainbows!
