How to Coupon: A Comprehensive Guide to Coupons & How To Use Them

Target vs Walmart

Coupons are one of the best ways to save money on your shopping. Coupons can be found almost everywhere, from newspapers, magazines, and over the Internet. And if you know how to use coupons then you will be able to save some serious cash on your weekly grocery trips!

In this article, we will be going over some helpful tips and tricks on how to coupon. We will also be discussing different ways that you can use coupons, so read on!

What is a Coupon?

A coupon is a ticket or certificate that can be exchanged for a financial discount or rebate when purchasing a product. Coupons are most widely used in the retail industry as a sales promotion strategy to increase sales volume and/or market share by providing an incentive to purchase.

How To Use Coupons

There are many ways you can use coupons in order to save money. You can bring your coupons along with you when shopping, or you can print them out before heading out to the store. Remember to always have a price history checker. However, there are three main methods of using coupons: clipping, using online coupons, and stacking.

Clipping Coupons

The best place to find coupons is by searching for them in your Sunday newspaper or online at sites like couponmom or redplum . When searching for coupons, always look for the words ``digital coupon" or "clip", as these are designed to be downloaded onto your computer so that you can copy and paste them into a word doc before taking it to the store. Digital Coupons cannot be doubled (see doubling rules below)

Online Coupons

You can also find coupons online. By searching for "online coupons", you will be able to find coupon codes for many different websites, including Amazon.com and Walmart. You will also be able to register on the website in order to get notifications when new deals are released. However, these are not digital coupons but they can still be printed out before shopping at your favorite store or site!

Stacking Coupons

Stacking coupons is the process of using manufacturer's coupons along with store-specific discounts. For example, if you had a $1 off coupon for Tide detergent and then went to your local grocery store where there was a sale on Tide that gave you $2 off per bottle, you could stack the coupons together and get a bottle of Tide for $1!

Stacking coupons is extremely helpful when you want to get items for free or close to free. However, it should only be used when the store accepts manufacturer's coupons because otherwise, you will have been wasting your time doubling up on discounts.

Doubling Coupons

Doubling coupons is a controversial method that many couponers use in order to save money. The way this works is that instead of buying one item at full price and then using a coupon on another item, these couponers will buy two of the same discounted items where one can be used as a filler while doubling the value of the other. For example, if something cost $5 and was offering a $2 off coupon, they would buy two of these items at full price and then use the one coupon on each item instead of the original plan of buying only one at full retail. This method works most of the time but sometimes you can get caught since it is not always easy to tell when something is supposed to be doubled or not.

Double Coupons are coupons that have been printed twice on the same piece of paper or advertisement. To double a coupon, simply cut along the perforated section before using it just like normal. It may seem pointless to double up on printable coupons but if you do your research right it can save you some serious cash!

Where Can You Find Coupons?

You will find coupons in many places, including your Sunday newspaper, coupon inserts, coupon websites, and even in the mail in rebate. The best way to find coupons is to check for them online since you can get coupons without leaving your house!

How To Use Coupons Effectively

Now that you know what a coupon is and how to use it, it's time to learn how to use coupons effectively. There are many ways you can do this so I will list some of the main points below:

Loyalty Programs: Many businesses offer loyalty programs where you earn points every time you shop there. These points allow you to buy items at discounted prices or even get free items based on how much money you have spent in the past year.    If your store does not offer this, you should ask the manager if they could create one. It never hurts to ask!

Coupon Expiration Dates: A lot of people tend to forget that coupons have expiration dates and will end up throwing them away before realizing they could have used them at a later date. If you find yourself in this position, search online for some coupon resources that will tell you when a certain type of coupon expires. This way you won't waste your money on expired coupons anymore. Target vs Walmart, which one do you think offers the best coupon to customers?

Ask The Manager: Sometimes it can be hard to get through all the lines in a store because there are so many other customers trying to do the same thing as us. In order to avoid these long lines, politely ask for assistance from an employee who can help you find good deals.  They might not be able to give you the deal right then and there but they will be more than happy to tell you where to find them!

Finding Coupons Opportunities: With nearly everything being online these days, it's pretty easy to get coupons for practically anything if you just look hard enough.  Try asking friends or family members who are always looking for bargains, use coupon comparison websites, check out some popular couponing forums, or even read coupon blogs!
