Maybe you’re planning a weekend getaway – or you’re already in town and searching for “ebike trails near me.” Keep reading to discover the best of biking in San Diego – bike path locations, tips for riding your electric bike and more.

Visiting San Diego This Fall

San Diego’s metro area spans around 370 square miles. It houses several vibrant neighborhoods, including downtown’s Little Italy and East Village. Those seeking the LGBTQIA+ scene should head north to Hillcrest, packed with coffeehouses, bookstores and shops galore. Coastal neighborhoods include Pacific Beach and La Jolla, plus the north county suburb of Encinitas. And Carlsbad is just a hop, skip and a jump away from San Diego proper. All these spots boast a plethora of bike routes – Hillcrest Pride Ride, Little Italy’s Balboa Park Joy Ride and many more.

Best Bike Trails in San Diego

San Diego has a lot to offer beginner and experienced cyclists. Beach lovers should check out the Mission Bay route. The 12-mile version takes you around several local parks and sandy beaches including Crown Point, South Shores and Ventura Cove. If you prefer a longer ride, the full “Board Walk Loop” stretches about 27 miles and includes Pacific Beach.

Outside San Diego lie more scenic options. There’s Lake Poway, about 30 miles northeast of the city. Black Mountain, another favorite destination, sits about 25 miles north of the Mission Bay path.  Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is a little closer, located about 20 miles north. You may also want to check out Telecote Canyon Natural Park is even closer – less than 5 miles east of Mission Boulevard.

Hitting the Trails With an Electric Bike

Ebikes’ popularity is rapidly growing. Many models come equipped with 250-watt or 500-watt rear hub motors. Sixthreezero’s EVRYJourney is one great example. It comes in several different variants, including the popular hybrid touring 500-watt edition with an ergonomic riding position, forward pedaling and a soft extra-wide foam seat. Excellent for riders with knee pain, the EVRYJourney 500W fits riders between 5 feet and 6 feet 4 inches tall weighing up to 250 pounds.

You may ask yourself, “How many miles can an electric bike go?” An ebike motor can offer pedal assistance or complete power. Full electric mode uses up more juice, but the EVRYJourney 500W can go about 20 miles if you let the motor do all the work. With pedal assist, the 500W model can go between 20 and 40 miles.
