Happy Grand Parents Day

It is hard to believe that my Gram has been alive for 9+ decades.  To look at her you would never know it. Today, we will be spending the day with her but it will be bittersweet.  Today, we are trying to encourage her to sell her home and move in with family so they can take care of her and treat her the way she deserves to be treated.  She is a beautiful woman inside and out and I am so proud to call her mine.

For as long as I can remember, my Gram has been petite but she has that famous Italian temper and she taught me how to be a mama bear.  Her selflessness has always been a guiding point for me in how to treat people and how I determined who I wanted to marry.  Her love story with my Grandfather is beautiful.  When he passed she never dated much less looked at another man, because he was her forever. I wanted that love too.

When I was in college I had an essay due where I had to interview someone from another generation so I could learn how different their lives were from mine. My Gram was the only one I wanted to learn more about. It was my favorite assignment because she spoke with such grace and the twinkle in her eyes when she spoke of her youth and meeting my Grandfather seemed something of a fairy tale.

I am so proud of this woman. She has lived through so many challenging times but you will never hear her complain. She takes everything in stride and has been my biggest supporter my entire life. While I don't want to be far from her, I know this next chapter in her life is for the best. I hope she knows how much we love her and are blessed to have her.
