The First Connection a Child Has With Their Mother

The first connection a child makes is natural with their mother. After all, they share the same space for nine months. A child’s mother is their constant. If you have a daughter she will emulate her mom. If you have a son his first love is his mother. Moms hold a very powerful place in a child’s life. So it is very important that she set a good example.

It has been researched showing that mothers can positively impact whether a child has healthy and happy adulthood. It goes on further to say that adults’ mental and physical health is influenced by many different factors, such as early psychological conditions that have been traced back to early childhood.

Children who have developed higher levels of self-esteem and a higher level of personal control coupled with strong family relationships often have much more successful adulthood. They often go on to raise healthy, strong children of their own.

The psychological impact of a mother on a child

Studies also show that the mother’s mental stability plays a greater role in a child’s health and well-being. Children whose mothers are depressed or have depressive symptoms are at a higher risk for developmental delays, behavioral problems, and an increased risk for depression themselves.

If the mother is depressed it is less likely that she will engage in practices that would increase the child’s well-being and mental development. Once to be thought of as postpartum depression has grown now to depressive disorder. In extreme situations, pediatric intervention is necessary.

Genetically speaking it is also more likely that if the mother has a substance abuse problem there is a higher risk for the child to follow in those footsteps. However, that does by no means determine your fate.

The emotional impact of a mother on a child

It is important to remember that you are the first bond of emotional attachment that your child will experience. The way that you respond to your child’s needs in the earliest months and years will leave a very deep impact on his/her overall emotional development.

It is your job to teach your child to trust and be trustworthy. If your child can trust you then he will be confident in his ability to trust others. It is so important to not react from your point of view all the time. Sometimes we need to take a step back and try to view situations from our child’s eyes. This will help your child learn to be sensitive and to think before reacting.

Children model the behavior that they see growing up to shape the way they treat the outside world. It is so hard in these crazy times for mothers to be able to take a step back and breathe before reacting, but it is so important in helping your child learn and develop into a secure happy adult.

The physical impact of mother to child

Studies have shown that the more a child is able to participate in physical activities the better off they will be. So it is equally important to be engaging with our child in activities that you enjoy. Introduce them to outdoor things that make you happy and give you a feeling of accomplishment. It is also a good outlet for them to get out any built-up energy that needs to be expelled. It is a wonderful bonding experience as well.

Giving a child the sense of learning something new that he/she sees you enjoying will make them strive to be able to do more and more things on their own, it will also help introduce them to different activities so that they can find out what they enjoy doing.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, the most important thing to remember is that children live what they learn. So if you want to have a healthy well-adjusted child it is paramount that you set a good example and that you always remember whether you see them or not your child is seeing and hearing everything you say. So be the best person that you can be so that your child can be their best as well. Love them, support them and be there for them as much as you can.
