10 Ways to Celebrate the Last Day of School with Your Child #MBPSUMMERFUN21

Any way you celebrate, 2020-2021 has been a challenging year for us all - students, teachers, and parents. It is hard to believe this year is almost over! For me and my students, this Friday is our last day together. What a year it has been!  Time to celebrate with your kiddo that they made it...and you did too! Read on for ideas for the last day of school that will bring joy to you and your child. You can also combine any of them for a fantastic celebration day!

Last Day Breakfast
Wake up a little early on the last day of school and go have breakfast to celebrate the last day of the school year and welcome in summer.

Summer Fun Box
Decorate and put together a fun-filled box with silly string, water guns, fun treats, games, and glow-in-the-dark necklaces. Place the box in a high-traffic place in your house and open it upon your kids’ arrival home on their last day of school.

Decorate the Car for Last School Day Pickup
When picking up your kids on the last day of school, pull up to the pickup line with your car decorated with wet-erase chalk markers. Write a fun saying like School is Done, Time to Have Fun! Add fun decorations to complete the look and be sure to get smiles from your child!

Welcome Summer Banner
Surprise them when they get home by hanging a “Welcome to Summer” banner across your front door at a level so they run through it like at the finish line of a race. Take a picture of them completing their year.

End of Year Exhibit
Put up the artwork, projects, short stories, and awards for viewing, and invite the grandparents and other extended families to show off your child’s work for the school year. It’s a great way to celebrate their successes.

Mystery Trip
On the last day of school pick the kids up and ramble on a secret adventure to the bowling alley, ice cream shop, skating rink, pool, etc. and spend the afternoon making memories.

Make a Summer Family List
Now that COVID restrictions are lessening, together as a family create a list of all the fun things you'd like to do as a family. One idea is to put them in a bucket and pull one out each week to do, agreeing to do it, no matter what it is.

Camp Out in the Yard
Get out your camping gear and set it all up in your backyard. Start the summer off with a camp out complete with hotdogs and smores.

Dance Party
Either on the way to school or when you pick them up, play their favorite songs while you go. Have a car dance party, blaring the music for all to hear. Maybe the teachers in the pickup line will join in the party!

End of Year Picnic
Pack a picnic with all your kiddo's favorite snacks and head to the park after you pick them up for a celebration and playground fun!

Do you have a special way you celebrate the end of school?
