Over the past several weeks, I have been delighted to share our family's asthma story with you. While I wasn't sure quite how it would play out, I am so pleased to say that it couldn't have worked out better for my family, particularly my son, B. If you'll recall, B is ten years old, an active guy who loves to play and dance, and he's living with childhood asthma. In earlier posts, I talked about where our asthma journey began, and how we wound up eager to try a nebulizer to help our son. Today, I'm excited to share a few more details about our experience, and tell you why and how this fantastic product has changed our lives.
Imagine being ten years old, going about your daily activities, and then stopping in your tracks because you suddenly can't breathe. One minute, you're kicking around a soccer ball with a friend on a mild temperature day, and then you find yourself wheezing and gasping for air. This is daily life for someone with asthma. My sister has asthma, and my son has it, and let me tell you- flare ups can sometimes be scary.
Luckily, I have a fair amount of knowledge about asthma, and experience in dealing with it, thanks to living with an asthmatic sibling for many years. I found dealing with and treating my son's asthma a little less frightening because I sort of knew what to look for and what to expect. I knew he would need daily allergy medication, and probably an inhaler. Done, and done! What I didn't realize was that sometimes, that inhaler wouldn't be enough, and better treatment option was out there, and readily available, with our doctor's approval.
Getting a nebulizer for B has completely changed our lives. We no longer have to worry about how we'll treat a sudden (bad) flare-up of asthma when we're at home or on the go. Thanks to the Portable MicroAir Nebulizer from OMRON, we're back to living life to the fullest, and couldn't be happier for our sweet boy! In my last post, I talked a lot about the nebulizer, its features, and how it works. We've since had an opportunity to try it out away from home, and the experience was completely amazing!
We recently took our kiddos to an indoor waterpark/resort for an overnight stay and play. I didn't even hesitate to book our room, even considering B's asthma. I knew that we would be able to easily bring along his portable nebulizer, and that he could use it in our room, or even in the waterpark. As I suspected, the temperature inside the waterpark was 87 degrees, and extremely humid- prime combination for an asthma flare-up when mixed in with activities such as swimming and waterslides.
Since our nebulizer is portable, and battery powered, it's easy to just place into an overnight or pool bag. It takes up virtually zero space, and doesn't need to be plugged in to be charged or powered up. When I noticed that B was lagging behind and seemed to be having trouble breathing in the waterpark, we took a break and used the nebulizer, which I was able to properly clean once we were back to our room. Without being able to use the nebulizer on the go like that, B would have had to sit out for a while, and would have missed out on valuable playtime at the park. Our nebulizer literally saved the day.
