When we learned that our son had asthma a few years ago, several questions began racing through our heads as parents. Would our son's quality of life change, due to this diagnosis? How would we navigate the ever-changing asthma battle? What types of products will we use to help him combat it? Our first step in this journey was to talk to our son's doctor, even after his initial diagnosis. While we were initially given prescriptions for allergy meds and an inhaler, we quickly learned that it just wasn't enough to meet the needs of sudden onset asthma attacks which were strong to severe.
Being the concerned mom that I am, we went back to our pediatrician for another visit, describing symptoms, and the trouble B was having with breathing while doing regular daily activities, such as playing on the playground at recess. With help and guidance from our doctor, we moved toward trying a nebulizer to help ease B's asthma attacks.
Recently, I shared with you that we were beginning a new journey in asthma management with OMRON nebulizers. OMRON's nebulizers are prescription-grade, FDA-cleared, and are portable, which means that they can be used anywhere! Talk about convenience for a family that is always on the go! I'll admit that I was anxious about using a nebulizer (as I am with any medical equipment) at home. I took the time to read over OMRON's website and learned how to use the Portable MicroAir Nebulizer by watching the handy how-to videos before the nebulizer even arrived. I ordered the nebulizer from JustNebulizers.com, which was easy to do with our doctor's prescription. The nebulizer shipped quickly, directly to our home, and we felt we were ready to try it out once it arrived.
The Portable MicroAir Nebulizer from OMRON is amazing. It is sleek, slim in design, and safe for kids to use. This small, portable nebulizer is also super quiet, making virtually zero noise when it's in use. Since we have light sleepers, a younger kiddo, and a new baby coming in the fall (when allergies and asthma are at their worst), it'll be absolutely wonderful to have this super quiet nebulizer on hand for B's flare-ups.
B was also a bit apprehensive about using the nebulizer at first, but after we calmed his initial fears, and showed him the video of how the nebulizer works and how it should be used, he was ready to give it a try.
The medicine easily goes into the cup and clicks into place. It's such a small nebulizer- it can be held easily by kiddos. It can also be used while sitting up or laying down. The mask is easy to adjust for he right fit. My best advice is to make sure that the mask is fitted properly before you begin using the nebulizer. This was save for any possible upset while in use.
We found that a propped position worked best for B. He was nervous about using the nebulizer while fully laying down (though this is perfectly fine, if you/your child prefers), so we made sure he was comfortable by having him lie back with his feet up, his back propped with a pillow, so he could just relax and be comfortable. The nebulizer is super quiet when it's running, so B had no trouble just sort of chilling out, watching TV, while he used the nebulizer.
While our first time using the nebulizer took a minute to get used to, it really went well! I was surprised by how easy it was to prep the nebulizer for use, and to then just switch it on and let B relax with his treatment.
Check out this cool video about the Portable MicroAir Nebulizer!
I'll be sharing one more post with my final thoughts on the Portable MicroAir Nebulizer, and why I think it's worth considering for your family if you or someone you love has asthma. In this post I'll also share tips on cleaning the unit, and how it performs when we're actually on the go, and not just at home. Be sure to stay tuned!
