The lockdown period has been tough on many of us, but for those in care homes, it can be even more of a challenge. Therefore, taking the time to check in with your family and planning some events here and there can really help to improve mental health over time. In this article, we will be providing you with information on how you can improve your mental health.

Try To Call As Much As Possible

During this time of uncertainty and lockdown restrictions, many of us are spending more time on our phones than ever before communicating with family and friends and this is no different for your loved one in a care home. Whether they are lucky enough to have a phone or a laptop for face time, all you call the home to talk to them on the landline, this can be enough to lift their mood for the whole day and improve mental health over time.

Visit When it Is Safe To Do So

Regardless of whether your loved one is living in one of the many care homes Redhill has to offer or they are living in a care home in the city such as London, it is important to make sure that you are visiting them as much as possible when it is safe to do so. This can improve the mental health of the resident and can also give them something to look forward too outside of the home activities.

Invite Them To A Virtual Zoom Quiz

Many of us throughout the first lockdown was invited into Zoom quizzes that have continued on into lockdown 2 and 3, so why not add your tech-savvy elderly family member. This is a great way of getting the whole family together and gives them something to look forward to every week or every two weeks. In addition to this, it gives you the ability to change up the questions and allows you to maybe learn something from them in the process. Whether it be on Zoom or on Facebook messenger, there are several apps out there that you can use.

Send Them A Book OR Puzzle In The Post

The final way that you can improve their mental health whilst be forced to spend time apart is by sending them a new book or a puzzle to keep their mind busy. These can be sent to the home by amazon allowing you to give them a gift without having to visit. This is great for a birthday or even just a small gift to brighten their day. Whether they are the ultimate bookworm or they are a fan of puzzles, there are several options out there for you to choose from.

With this in mind, there are several options out there for you to choose from to help your loved ones and yourselves deal with the lockdown and the impact that it can have on your mental health. Which of these tips will you be using?
