5 Facts You Never Knew About Fitness At Work

So, your company has just introduced a corporate wellness program, and you are unsure if you should join in or not. Of course, the choice is entirely yours. You understand that fitness is important for both your mental and physical health, but we are pretty certain there are things that you didn't know. This article is going to focus on five of the biggest facts that you never (or probably didn't) know about fitness, which may encourage you to join in next time your boss asks you all to go for a team exercise.

1. Removal Of Deranged Brain Protein

We understand that physical activities can make you feel good in the short-term. However, did you know that aerobic exercises will help promote plasticity in the brain cells and help remove damaged and deranged brain proteins? Furthermore, it will speed up the removal of other cellular debris from the brain. Both of which are major contributors to neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington's disease, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's. The more regularly that you exercise, the less likely you are to develop them.

2. Yoga Reduces Inflammation

It is common knowledge that yoga is a serious stress buster. However, did you know that it also reduces inflammatory cytokines? (They are what cause inflammation). While inflammation is a normal bodily response, you can experience too much of it. Chronic inflammation can cause some serious issues such as heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer. Yoga is not only a great way to reduce those risks, but it is also easy to do anywhere at any time. So, if your workplace is offering yoga classes, we certainly hope you consider them.

3. Exercise For The Team

Group exercising, especially at work, has a huge benefit of team building. When you all carry out exercising together, there is a great sense of teamwork and healthy competitiveness. They are both conducive to increasing cooperation and trust throughout the whole team. Furthermore, it offers a common ground and interest for people who would not usually share any interests. That can be a great team morale booster and increase your working environment.

4. A Reason For Chocolate

So, you think that there is only ever fitness and salad, nothing else. Well, next time your boss tries to get you to join in the fitness at work program that they have incorporated, you may be in a position to barter. You can say that you will do it if they buy the whole team some dark chocolate. It is a great antioxidant that removes free radicals from the body and decreases the risk of cancer. Furthermore, it promotes carb metabolism, meaning you may actually lose more weight by eating dark chocolate right before exercise. We are not sure they will agree to buy it, but it is a good reason to keep a stash at work!

5. Turn Back Time

If you are inactive and older than ~30, you may be facing something you want to ignore. However, that is not possible. Every decade that passes after that age, you can lose up to 5% of your muscle mass. You become weaker and less capable of completing daily tasks. Furthermore, muscle atrophy will increase the risk of falls, imbalance, and general physical capability reduction.
