Staying Cozy With Your Family This Winter

As the weather gets colder and the nights grow longer, it’s time to hunker down with your family and stay warm at home. This year has already seen many families having to spend more time than usual together at home, and while this might have driven them crazy at times, it has also allowed them the opportunity to grow closer as a unit. As the winter season moves in, it’s time to take the opportunity to find a way to stay cozy and warm together, and here are some fun suggestions you can try.

Have a Duvet Day

What is the best way to stay cozy all day long? Staying snuggled up under a blanket. While you might not all fit into one bed, you could all bring down your duvets or comforters and get cozy on the couch together and enjoy some of your favorite movies or TV shows. If you have a new baby in the house, treat them to a snuggly white faux fur blanket. This is great for both big kids and small kids, and is a great way to unwind with your family.

Do Some Home Baking

Filling your home with the smell of fresh cookies or some other delicious treats will certainly amp up the cozy factor. It’s a great boredom buster to do with your kids if they are stuck indoors with you all day, and it’s also an opportunity to teach them some basic life skills. Let them find a recipe online, and if you are going to bake cakes or cookies, spend some time decorating them once they have cooled. You can all enjoy them as a treat after dinner or with a hot drink in the afternoon.

Read to Each Other

If you want to try and limit screen time at home, reading together could be a good way to do it. This is ideal for parents with small children, and reading to them or listening to them read to you is great for their development. If you wanted to encourage their imagination even more, why not all make up a story together? You could mimic sharing tall tales around a campfire from the comfort of your living room—just don’t forget the s’mores!

Play Board Games

This is another way you can pry the family away from the screens in the house and spend some quality time together. There are hundreds of family-friendly board games available, which means finding one you can all enjoy shouldn’t be too difficult. Get a healthy competition going with each other by keeping a scoreboard. You might even start a new tradition of a family games night each week.

Do Arts and Crafts

This is another activity that people of any age can enjoy, which is why it’s a great activity to do as a family. Not only is it a good way to indulge in your creative side, but arts and crafts are thought to have a soothing effect on people. If you want to get into the festive spirit, make Christmas cards or decorations together as you listen to cheesy Christmas hits.

It’s important to spend quality time with your family, which is why you should try some of the suggestions above to all stay happy and cozy together this winter.
