Many of us take car paint for granted. Do you know how expensive it is to get a full new coat of car paint from a professional car body specialist? It can range into the thousands of pounds, and it can cost hundreds to repair scratches and other damage. Even if you buy car paint online and apply the car touch-up paint yourself, it can still take a lot of time and hassle.
The best policy is to take as many protective measures as you can to avoid the need for repairs. Here are some great tips:
1. Quickly Wash Off Everyday Contaminants
There are several everyday natural substances that are anathema to your car’s paint. Two common examples are tree sap and bird droppings. Many of us see these things on our car and just think “Well, I’ll wash that off this weekend when I clean the car.” Your paint can’t wait for these acidic and damaging substances to be removed. 3. Get a Ceramic Coating
Among the more lasting (but costly) forms of paint protection is the use of professionally applied ceramic coating. Though expensive, this polymer coating makes your paint essentially hydrophobic, and able to cast-off water and other contaminants that would attempt to bond with your paint. If done by professionals, the effect can last for years. DIY products are also improving, and currently can last up to a year or two, though not always as robustly as the professional-level ones.
4. Cover the Car When Parked
To avoid the dangers of the above-mentioned contaminants, it’s best to keep your car covered as much as possible when parked. Whether this means parking in a garage, underground car park, car port or other covered space doesn’t matter – it all helps. If you have to park in the street, then use a car cover to protect the paint from the many enemies coming from nature.
5. Use a Clay Bar
Another great detailing tool is for paint protection is the clay bar, especially when used before applying wax or sealant. The strength of the bond between paint and wax depends on how well you have removed the various contaminants from the paint surface. The clay bar is the final weapon that removes the most stubbornly embedded materials from the car’s surface. Apply the lubricant and rub the clay bar over the painted area, and it will yank that pesky dirt like you never thought possible.
But…Accidents Do Happen
